I've been going back and forth on this and still don't know. Driving me nuts
I have a 1DMk2 and 20D right now. Was thinking of a 7D but the intracacies of the AF and "soft" images threads are throwing me. I was hoping to get a body that is good for Birds in Flight and also can do 5AEB brackets for HDR images.
If I used the magic lantern software for the 60D it would do the bracketing although I also read it does them very slow, which isn't good.
So try and straighten me out please !
I did order a broken camera though for the Canon loyalty program, looks like great deals either way !

He ordered a broken one to use as a trade in in the CLP. They are commonly available on fleabay for about $10.

Yeah that way you can take advantage of the cop program. A lot of people will spend 10-15 on a broken p&s to get the discount.

As for the 60d, I don't see why that wouldn't be a great camera to use. My only complaint with it would be he lack of micro adjusting.

I think he means to get a regurbished camera thru CLP... a trade-in is required, and a lot of people buy a cheap broken one that qualifies (no sense trading in a working camera, usually you can sell them for more than the amount of the discount).

Refurbs can be cameras sent back to Canon for any number of reasons... Probably the most common is that they were floor samples in stores or at trade shows, so can't be sold as new. Depending upon how they were treated, and how long they were on display, they might have very few clicks... or a lot.

Could also be a damaged box or overstock return.

Or could be a repaired camera that was returned for some glitch. Or returned some "perceived" glitch, from a user who was over their head with it and couldn't be bothered to read the manual.

60D would be fine for landscapes and BIF... lenses will be more important than the camera.

A 5D Mark III would probably be the most ideal Canon model for those two primary purposes. It's the first Canon model to offer up to 7-frame bracketing. And FF is nice for landscapes in particular.

60D or 7D might be second best, with the advantage of the extra "reach" of the crop sensor for BIF. But it's a disadvantage with wide lenses, such as might be desirable for landscapes.

There's no such thing as a perfect camera. 60D would be a nice step up from your 20D. 7D would be even more so (Re: soft images... simply sharpen them! It's no big deal.)
