Old EF lens on 5d 2

My mother in law gave me an excelent condition 70-210 f/4 that was well stored in a atic in a camera bag within a box. I want to clean the rear element and use it on my 5D but im nervous about mold. How can I check for mold and clean the rear glass? I have lens cleaner kit btw.

Do you see any mold? Get some bags of silica gel and put the lens in a box to dry out any hidden moisture. Expose the lens elements to UV light for a few hours. You probably have lens cleaning fluid in the kit. I saw the Canon Tech at a show once, he wrapped a lint-free piece of lens paper around a q-tip and wiped the lens surface in a circular motion from center to edge. He barely wet the paper with fluid.

take off both caps, and look thru it...is it clear? if so put it on your camera, and take pics...

Lol, thank you, that is what I was thinking. It is a camera lens not the core of a nuclear bomb. If you don't see anything growing on it, go to town with it.
