Dx0Mark can say whatever they want but at the end of the day, Numbers are just numbers. Here's an example that showcase the Mark III DR.

Original frame straight out of the camera (underexposed on purpose)

Ok it's settled. Guess 'they' were wrong... Who are 'they' again? And when did they say what you claim?

But you see...

Had the same shot been taken with a D800... instead of resolving a silly little bird, you'd have resolved a bald eagle.

I've missed anyone claiming the 5D III has a "poor" DR. It doesn't have the best DR among DSLR cameras. But, not having the best DR is not the same as having a "poor" DR.

The ability to "save" an image is not the textbook definition of "Dynamic Range"

DR = The camera's ability to resolve as many shades between 255,255,255 (featureless white) and 0,0,0 (featureless black) as possible in one frame...

I don't think anyone is saying the the MkIII has poor dynamic range. It's quite good, but there is a camera out there that has better dynamic range.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

dpreview - not DXO mind you - the same dpreview that gave the same score to the D800 and the 5D III shows that the D800 has a superior DR: http://www.dpreview.com …/canon-eos-5d-mark-iii/19 (external link)

But, so what? They still gave an equal overall rating for both products. Competing products are generally like that, one product has a better this, while the other product has a better that. Regarding the 5D III and the D800 and DR, it is about "very good" and "even better."

That's worthy of this - bw!

ROFLMAO.

But, looking at your gearlist- you'd have ended up with a robin as well. :(

That's impressive IMO!

Even on my 5D, I'm sometimes amazed at how much shadow detail Lightoom4 can expose from a raw file.

Unmanipulated?
