Sunday was a great day for Autocross...

Just up the road from me in Verona is a County Government building that lets the local PCA chapter use the parking lot once a month for Auto Cross events... Mighty nice of the County Administrators.

C&C Always welcome.

Thanks Rick!

The guy driving the Cayman above is a good friend of mine, and my personal mechanic. His normal car for Autocross is a 1977 Jaguar XJS with a 454 under the hood... It doesn't get as good of a time on the course as the Cayman, but it's typically a lot more fun to watch.

Next time try to get some head on shots from a lower angle, with the mountain or hills in the background. It's usually hard to get a good background at an autocross event, but looks like you had some nice hills.

#4 if you could position yourself ground level about 20-30 feet to the left, to point straight down the course so the cars are coming at you with the hill background, that would make for a nice shot.

If their PCA club is the same as ours down here, they probably have an autocross once a month or so. It looks like they won't be able to modify their course too much due to the confined lot, so you should be able to figure out what shots work and when (i.e. sun position).

Thanks Eric. It is a pretty nice location, and it's a decent sized course.. the course for this one was just over a mile.

The problem though is that all of the spectators have to stay on a covered loading dock above the track area.. as seen behind this Honda:

It has to do with the insurance and whatnot for the group, so they're not too flexible about that.

I did manage to grab a few when I was "Walking to my car" *wink wink* .. but you can't just stand out there and shoot during the event. They'll actually stop the laps if someone is walking around down by the track area....

I hear ya, whenever I shoot for them they require a spotter to walk around with me. I usually give the spotter free pictures for standing out there with me. The spotters usually don't mind since they would be working a corner anyway chasing down cones.
Being out there with a spotter is no different then being a corner worker, in the eyes of their insurance. Talk to the guy running the morning brief, usually the safety chair or competition chair and see if they will allow the same. Offer up a few free pictures for the club to use in their newsletter.

The 3rd picture of the BMW was pretty much was I was thinking. With a little more reach on your lens and that could make for a great backdrop.

That's a dang fine idea Eric. Thanks!

I'll talk to the folks in charge at the next one to see if I can go out there with the corner workers. Great tip!

Love the '67 Camaro in pic 2. Any static shots or info on it? Nice pics.

The Camaro sucked in a nut into the intake and destroyed a piston in the 2nd lap...(so I was told) so I didn't manage to get any more shots of it..
