After finding out he would get to mentor Raymond Felton instead of Jeremy Lin, Jason Kidd was apparently so happy that he got drunk and crashed his SUV into a pole :D

Good! That contract is ridiculous. I rather have Felton at his 10 million total over lin who is unproven. Are you telling me you would pay 30+ million for Lin in his last season? That is Chris Paul money as Stephen A Smith said  The joke is on houston and the idiot GM they have.

It's not ridiculous for Houston. They can structure their future contracts around his 14.9 mil year-3 salary. His first 2 years are only 5 mil each. Assuming they don't land DHoward (and Hedo/Richardson), they can easily keep under the cap. Lets not forget that the Rockets made major marketing money off Yao Ming. JLin is a mini-Yao, and for a fraction of the price, assuming he plays fairly well.

NYK made all the wrong moves leading up to this. They didn't offer Lin a contract up front, which could have secured him before a Rockes offer. They brought in Woodson and gave hima multi-year contract, knowing that he didn't think highly of Lin--and wouldn't run plays to his strengths. It's the Knicks that gave Tyson Chandler, Melo, and Amare near-max and max contracts. That's on the Knicks organization. Their mistakes.

If anything, Lin has a better chance in Houston. It's the former pad of Yao Ming, and the team is still popular in China and their games are still regularly broadcast. Lin and the Rockets will likely get tons of endorsements, catering to the millions of rabid Chinese basketball fans in China. They'll likely force the coach to favor a system that benefits his style of play (keeping the rock in his hands)--or get a new one that will. Lin is probably going to play better with a team of decent players, than a team centered on a few ball-hogging primadonnas in Melo and Amare. Compared to the deal that stole PG Goran Dragic from the Rockets, the JLin deal isn't much worse and has major potential upside. And it costs them nothing but money--NY is giving him up for nothing.

Kudos to the Rockets for using their brains and sticking it to NY. NY asked for this. I can only assume Thomas has his hands in this mess, and with their past trackrecord, it wouldn't be too surprising if Dolan comes to regret his decision in a few years  I don't necessarily think the Knicks management are stupid for passing on him, knowing the costs involved, but the Rockets absolutely made the right move.

Of course it's a gamble, but what deal isn't?

You've never seen a screwdriver before?

Or melted-metal and scorch marks?

I've seen a screwdriver, just not a melted or scorched one so up close.

Now when was the first day the Knicks could offer said contract considering his bird rights was under review? July 1st. Considering they could offer any contract why jump at it. No other team has jumped at their free agents with which they hold rights to. They always wait to match in this kind of situation. Lin isnt a loss at all. He isnt proven and i am happy the Knicks played it like this. I thought he was over rated. Used his injury as en excuse not to play in the playoffs "Im at 85% but cant play" (first of all who is 100% in the playoffs?) because he wanted to max out his contract. It is a business and kudos to him but go ahead and do it with houston. I am happy with the moves they made to address the situation.
