Somebody on a bird forum thinks that this is a juvenile red-winged blackbird. Anybody know for sure??

Looks like it is a Juvi. based on the streaking and dark coloration. Were you near a wetland at all? Because that would change the ID if you weren't.

Here's a link take a peek at some field marks if you haven't yet

Any chance you can make one or both of these wonderful photos available in a larger size to help with the id?

Certainly a RWB; I can't tell without seeing the back of the wings whether it's female or a juvi male, myself. Nice captures, though.

Thank you kind sir. I'm just learning, so please, listen to those who truly know what they are talking about. From what can be seen here I'm tempted to go with hatch year male because of the indistinctness of the white eyebrow stripe. It is usually much more prominent in females, but not necessarily so very much in hatch year. The shoulder color, what can be seen of it might also mean young male, but it could also be older female. To my newbie eye this bird does not appear to be old at all.

Thanx, everybody. I guess I really need to get a good bird ID book. Or join a birdwatching club or something.
