I would like to know whats the best camera strap to use for traveling with a Canon 5d II attached to 70-200 L II. I still have the original canon straps and I would like to upgrade since I know it'll be heavy around my neck. Any suggestions? thanks.

I prefer a shoulder sling strap like the Black Rapid ones.

I find traditional straps a pain in the neck. :)

I see that now! When I bought mine, they had only one model. As close as I can tell, mine is close to the "RS-4" classic. Browse around though, there are others that might fit your needs better. Like the curved one or the sport one w/ the under-arm attachment.

I just prefer to have the camera out of my face/chest when I'm not using it. I've hiking all over on wildlife shoots w/ the R-Strap. If you do go that route, I highly suggest using a little loc-tite on the attachment so you don't worry about the connector coming loose.

That being said, when I did use a neck strap, my favorite was the this one.

thanks! I will look more into it. I don't like neck strap since it puts too much pressure on my cervical spine, I rather have the pressure be on my shoulders since its all muscle :)

I love the Crumpler Industry Disgrace. Great padding and comfortable all day with a 70-200mm 2.8.
I use a pair of them when not using the Cotton Carrier. I leave them long and have it over the opposite shoulder across the body.

Personally I just cannot see trusting the Black Rapid - just too much $$ hanging on one ring

I used to love the Op/tech pro loop, but these days I'm really digging the Black Rapid RS-7 Curve. I think that the tripod mount connector is solid enough for me.

I find that like camera bags (and most other camera accessories), straps are a subjective thing, and it's hard to say which one is "best". My personal favorite are Wapiti Straps (external link) - no-nonsense high quality custom straps. You can order them however long you want - I ordered a long one that I use as more of a sling (ala BlackRapid straps) rather than a neckstrap. They're extremely comfortable and well-built, well worth the cash.

I'm liking the RS-Sport strap, it looks pretty solid on the shoulder by wrapping around under the arm.

I have the thinktank strap, black rapid, and crumpler industry discrace. Favorites in that order but of course for me i'm usually looking to use the strap that takes up the least amount of room in my camera bag, which is why my TT strap is my favorite right now. I also like the TT strap because it has loops on it which allow you to attach it to backpack straps to take the load off your neck/shoulder.

I never use neck or shoulder straps, preferring to use a Kata Torso pack and an Op/Tech neoprene hand/wrist strap. That keeps the camera protected and quick to hand when not in use without having it bouncing around or exposed to dust (lots of dust in these parts), as well as keeping it secure in my grip while I am shooting.

If I DID use a strap, then I would go with a Black Rapid RS-7.

I just read in another thread that the RS-7 has a part that pinch the back of your arm, and I don't like hand strap because my set up is pretty heavy with the 70-200L II.
