they're very alike price-wice, and both have a good reputation. the only minor differences is Pro1 having 1+ megapixels, and a better macro mode (?). it seems there are more G6 owners, why is that?! does the obvious decrease in Pro1's price over the months suggest something?

which one would you suggest? which to you seems like a better choice?? (if you've had experience with both)

Take a look at this thread:

End of an era

To me, the EVF is the one feature that would render the Pro1 unusable ... don't like that security-cam look when composing my images.

Best regards,
Andy

some cameras, some lenses,
and still a lot of things to learn...
(so post processing examples on my images are welcome :D)

I bought my Pro1 when it was only out a few weeks and have used it like a mad dog until the last couple of months. I think it is a great little camera and I still recommend it to anyone who asks.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Well, I don't own a pro1, but I can talk about my G6. It is a great camera! and I love it.

I think you won't go wrong whichever you get...The only thing you have to do is learn your camera and you will take great pictures.

My regards,

Artan

Yes, sometimes the EVF does seem to flicker, leaving you with no doubt that it's electronic and not optical. But the next step up would be the more expensive dSLR! Step down a notch and you get a VF that doesn't show the "real" image you're about to shoot (ie the vf on my old A20 is optical BUT it's not SLR -- so it doesn't show digital zoom or any other such things).

Personally, I like that the Pro1 is style to be more like an SLR than a "compact" camera.

I don't know how the S6 zoom is controlled, but I find turning the zoom ring on the Pro1 lens is fast and responsive -- much more so that the zoom in/out rocker button on the A20 and other cameras.

thank you everyone for the feedback - especially RAW because you didn't suggest to just get a dSRL as a lot of people (with dSRL's) have!

Pro1 seems like a better choice (this review helped to come to that conclusion (external link)). to me the differences are minimal, so if i got a G6 i wouldn't even notice!

I'm getting a digital camera as a christmas present, i said that i want either one of them, so it'll be a suprise.
