Hi guys bare with me as its probably a silly question but i just bought a new laptop and it came with elements 9 and premier 9 what's the difference between the two ,is one better or do they do different things all together. Iv only recently to my 550d also so go gently lol oh and iv managed to rescue a copy of ps cs5 from my desktop(was on it when i bought it last year) via a external hdd which is now on the laptop too so in addition would it be best using pse for light work then cs5 for more in depth editing . Also are with e as I haven't used any of them yet so could be clutching at straws here.

Thanks gaz

Premiere Elements is a video editing program and Photoshop Elements is a "still" editor (RAW, JPG, TIFF, DNG, etc.).

Elements can do a lot; since you already have CS5, take a look at your copy of Elements and see what you think. I'm sure a lot of the menu items will look familiar to you.

I do not like PP and do as little as possible. Currently using DPP and PSE 10. IN YOUR honest opinion is purchasing CS worth it especially considering there is no way I qualify for any discount (student/teacher, etc.) and avoid PP if possible?

Wish I could help with that, but I have no experience with the full Photoshop, so I hardly feel qualified to reply. Elements can do a very competent job, especially now that it has layer masks. Since getting Lightroom I only occasionally use Elements, but for some jobs it is essential (such as when layers and masks are required). I see people doing amazing things with Photoshop that I know I can't do with Elements, but at this stage I can't justify the cost.

I think if a serious but short-term need came up I would get a good book, study like mad, and then go for a short term subscription once I thought I could make efficient use of it.

Based on your statement I doubt you would have a need for the full version. Save your $$ for something else.

I don't quite understand the question. CS is for post processing. I don't know how buying it would help you to avoid it. Elements and Lightroom are both easier to use than the full version of Photoshop, and it would be overkill if you don't actually need it.

Tips are appreciated. ;) Not everyone needs LR or CSx. and it sure sounded like you wouldn't benefit from either.
