Alright. I'm almost sold on the idea of the Sigma 17-50mm.

It seems to be almost as good as the Canon 17-55. The auto-focusing seems to be a little worse, the ring for focus is worse (less play, not good friction), and not as sharp on edges as the Canon(?). Also no full time manual focus is a downer. :(

But the price is way lower... I will be shooting in a lot of low light conditions. The AF on the 50mm that I had always was seeking like crazy to find a good shot. The manual focusing didn't help. I couldn't tell if things were in focus or not (****ty view finder, my bad vision, or just the lens? Or all three...).

It seems the Sigma is $670. Canon is closer to $1000. Used is obviously nice, but I can't find the Sigma's being second hand almost at all... So, should I just buy it used? I want to shoot with this lens soon.

Also considering a polarizing filter. I think it would help for some of the shots I am trying to take. (I do almost everything. People is just one of the main things that gets the most attention.)

Consider the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 OS as well. I just purchased it and am loving it for the price ($420 right now).

+1

Used to have the tamron 17-50 non VC, it is an amazing lens for the money. Lens is sharp and build quality is way better than the kit lens.
