Since no one wants to hire someone who never shot a wedding, I am thinking I am going to start crashing some wedding so I can get a portfolio build. I know I have the skill and the equipment, I just need an opportunity to do it. I understand there is lots of wanna be photographers out there but I know what I am capable of.

Wow.

How do you expect the B&G to react when a stranger (you) tries to get them to pose?

Does this mean that the other two cousins are the bride and groom? Be sure and get some good shots of the banjo player. :)

What happens when multiple photographers decide to crash the same wedding? Photographers everywhere with DSLR's and flashes going off! Multiple photographers trying to out do each other and getting into fist fights because more than one photog wants to spend time with the bride at the same time.:lol::lol:

This is a very interesting topic. I got married almost 2 years ago and had pictures done at a certain popular area. We'll, so did 15 other wedding parties. By me, there are like 10 or more popular spots for pictures. My point being, I would say it would be acceptable to walk around and take pictures quietly. You could even go to a reception hall prior to anyone getting there and steal a few pics of the setup. I would however NOT ask for pictures, go to a church or go during the actual reception. That would be unacceptable.

Just my noob .02

Now I'll grab my popcorn and continue hitting refresh to read the funny comments about this topic.

Seriously bad idea. You're going to disrupt someone's wedding and piss off the pro who is doing the actual wedding shoot; not to mention the fact that no one is likely to pose for you so you will be trying to steal every shot.

The correct way to gain experience is to offer your services to local wedding shooters as a second shooter. That way you don't upset anyone and you get to actually learn from the pro.
