The other day a teen girl who's a friend of our's asked me to do some photos for her. We waited as late in the evening as possible, but it was still in the upper 90's while we were shooting. We both had fun, but it was difficult to not rush through it.

My favorite is easily #6 (candy store). The picture has balance, your friend is eating what one would think is candy, and overall is fun to look at that picture. It looks like it's not 100% level, but it's hardly noticeable.

Regarding the other ones in the set, she has the same expression for the most part, sort of a forced smile or grin, which IMO takes away from the pictures. She also looks uncomfortable on #2. #4 is pretty cool. I also like #1 but I'd crop off a bit from the right. On #5 (wall) she should've bent her arms or one knee. She is essentially a wall leaning against a wall (by that I mean her pose, not her physical looks or anything like that).

In summary: The gold goes to #6, silver to #4 and #1 takes the bronze. What can I say? The Olympics are approaching ;)

The problem with #6 is that I couldn't get directly in front of the store, so it makes it look like it's not straight. The only way I could get more of a smile out of her on the others was to make her laugh, which also led to squinting of the eyes. #5 I so wished I had noticed her positioning more at the time, unfortunately I didn't. I will try recropping #1 and see how it looks.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, she has a very dark birthmark on that shoulder.

Here's a few others. Of course, if you click on one then it should take you to the set on flickr.

9. Really wish the post hadn't been there to mess up the reflection in this one. And of course she's a little out of focus...I know.

1. cant see.
2. my favorite, try to pull down some of the highlights, seems slightly overexposed.
3. not really digging the angle, i think you really needed to use a very shallow DOF, focus the eyes and blur the rest. clone out the birthmark.
4. tighten up the crop and dodge that shadow on the left of her face.
5. her leaning against the wall is causing all sort of problems, most being the hair pushed up. i'd would like to have seem less of a perspective down the building and more brickwork , DOF is real good though.
6.cant see
7. again too strong of a perspective. need to be more like 20 or 30 degrees to the steps. you are about 5 degrees, if that. DOF could be a little shallower.
8. needs a better crop. pull her to the left third line cropping off the pole and flag.
9.completely missed the focus on the face, the pole kills the reflection.
10. best one yet, perfect DOF, composition is spot on. dodge the left face and eyes and whiten the teeth. in the future get more light on the face, especially the eyes and especially if they have beautiful blue ones, highlight them like crazy.

:) i just dont sugarcoat my critiques.

in short you need more practice, especially posing and composition. good attempt, hope my suggestions help.

So I see, but that's okay. If I didn't want CC, I wouldn't post my photos on here.

I fixed #1 and #6 is showing up for me, but if others can't see it, then let me know.

BTW: That's why I don't charge for anything yet, but maybe someday.

i find that critiquing other images help me not to make the same mistakes i see. its a lot to take in.

i just started going pro and and its a whirlwind in my head trying to keep it all straight.

some people take it the wrong way, but being candid is the best approach i found, i like when people are candid with me. it pushes me past my own predjudces and i see the flaws that they see.

Thanks, that was the most planned shot of the entire group. Most every thing else was, "lets try something over here". This was the first time I've gone uptown to shoot. I do wish the 'closed' sign wasn't in the window, but it didn't bother me enough to remove it.
