My 5D2 works just fine with LR3, I'd be happy to perform an exchange, as I already have LR4. This way you won't have to spend the big bucks on new software. ;)

This is a reasonable offer.

If you're not going to splurge on LR4 I supposed you could use Adobe's DNG converter but... well that seems silly.

LR4 converts all my MkIII's CR2s into DNGs during the import process anyway. That's what I did before with ACR for LR3 before I moved over to LR4.

DNG conversion is the only way to get unsupported raw files into LR4.
It can be accomplished during import. Doing it during import requires configuring LR to accomplish the conversion.
Naturally, the DNG conversion software has to be able to recognize the raw format.

Try the conversion with LR3. If LR3 import doesn't support the 5Diii raw file format then use the external converter.

If you already have LR3, the upgrade to LR4 is only $79. Just my opinion, but if you can afford to drop 3.5 grand on a new camera body, $79 seems like a very small drop in the bucket.

Got LR4.1 and now the damn thing wont work on Windows XP. Needs Vista. Come on. I don't want new windows. Sometime you wonder all these companies in bed together to get us to uprgade. At least so far they don't check my motherboard/processor saying no you need latest/greated to run this piece of software.

I hate every new version of windows. If I were me, I would be using still old Windows NT. Why should new version of LR require latest windows that is what I don't understand.

Because XP is pure crap. NT is pure crap as well. In the IT field we called it "nice try" as it's just inferior in every way.

Seriously, upgrade. Developers can't be expected to support such old OSs. XP is a dinosaur and was not created with the capacity to deal with things modern software like LR4 needs to run. You can't blame MS as XP was supported light years longer than Apple has supported its OS backwards capabilities with applications.

How much RAM are you running? Modern OSs and applications need more than 1 or 2GB. If you want to run 2012 software, then you had at least be running a 2012 OS and reasonable hardware (like at least 2GB of RAM). You have a cutting edge camera, so get something that can support it.

Windows XP can take 4GB RAM though 3GB will be available. Modern OS, man everything decent still based on 40 yr old UNIX isn't it. We went to the moon with no even 64k memory. :) I know the newer cameras, much bigger files, more memory and horsepower needed. Not denying that. I make my living writing software.:)
