Hey guys, last minute decision here, I have a t2i and 7d. I am going for a month with my gf and her mom (they are Vietnamese). I was planning on bringing the t2i because I have heard things about theft and didn't want to risk it. The thing thats bugging me is the humidity, it's supposed to be crazy humid and I don't want the t2i to cop out. I'm bringing my 50mm f1.4 and sigma 17-50 f2.8. We are going Ho Chi Minh - Rach Gia then up north, Ha noi I think.

Any thoughts? Quick!!! :D

The rebel is lighter and, as you mentioned, less expensive to replace should anything unfortunate happen.

That said, I would choose the camera that I was most comfortable with on the fly. For me, it would be changing settings on a 40D or similar camera that would offer the most speed and ease of use.

Don't worry about latent humidity and the camera. It's not going to die in your hands just because it's humid out. If you take it from a cold to humid environ or do the reverse, then you might have an issue with condensation, but while out and about, you should have no issues.

I'd consider bringing some Optec rain sleeves as well.... I hear it rains a lot over there.

If you're worried about theft, both cameras are equally likely to get stolen if you're not careful, so just be careful and problem solved.

Don't worry about humidity, shouldn't be an issue unless you get your gear soaking wet in a rain storm (advantage 7D though).

Which do you prefer shooting with, I'd just go with that. Prob 7D right?

7D, better AF will go well with the fast lenses.

Thanks for in input guys, i'm definitely more comfortable with the 7D now, and I really like its ergonomics. The T2i is really light which was a plus, however I think i'll drag the 7D out there! Go big or go home, I don't want to second guess myself so i'll take the best.

Thanks again

Go with the 2ti. Lighter, cheaper, more discrete and same IQ. Perfect travel camera.

I have the same dilemma, but I'm stuck with the 5D2, there is no rebel version of this camera....

Theft is not really a concern. If they have the opertunity to take your camera, they are not going to pass it simply because it is a T2i. $20 is $20. They dont care what model it is. They just want the cash. And puting tape over everything is just as pointless. Have you ever seen a cheap camera taped up? The tape is actually a hint the camera is worth taking!!!

All that said. Thake the best camera you can. Especially if it is a once in a lifetime trip. Why have inferior memories when you could have made better ones?

I've taken my 30D + tamron/sigma 17-50's a few times, but that's under 1K worth of gear. Upping that 3 folds is a little more concerning. I'll probably keep it glued to me at all times like a purse. Another option is to travel with only the nifty fifty and call it a day.

buy some insurance (it's relatively cheap) and take what you're most comfortable with. People who look like victims are generally victims. Be aware of your surroundings and walk with your head up, if you look scared, people will assume you're scared and will try you. Doesn't matter if your 5"1 or 6"10. You're more likely to get robbed in certain parts of the USA than anywhere on the planet....

I definitely agree 100%, I am confident in my abilities to take care of my gear and defend myself. I feel I owe it to myself to take the best gear I can (not IQ wise in this case, but in ergonomics and features), who knows when this opportunity will present itself again. 7D it is! All packed up and ready to go :D
