Just picked up a 580 EX II from a friend. Never learned to use a flash before, will post photos here as I learn...

To start, a couple from two local gigs recently: (Both 580 EX on-body w/ built in bounce card)

I'm hoping the post is not wrong because I used two speedlights @ 1/4 power as one lightsource in a octagon softbox, so basically it's possible with one speedlight @ 1/2 power! ;-)a

Ha! That's funny!

Here's a quickie from yesterday morning. On camera speedlite, BFT, bounced off wall back over my shoulder a bit to the left, 3 Stop ND. (Cross post from Siggy 35 1.4 thread)

The quality of your portraits in this thread is absolutely outstanding. I have been looking for inspiration to learn artificial lighting and seeing your work is very motivating. Thank you for sharing.

What flash modifiers do you recommend to start out? I am borrowing a 580EX II from a friend to test the waters of artificial lighting. I imagine I'd need a tripod mount (Or does the plastic base have a hole?) and some sort of an umbrella? Softbox?

Hi everyone, I have one flash 430ex II and 5dmk2.
I connect my camera with flash through wireless sync Pixel Rook (transmitter+receiver) for Canon.

And I need help, that set up my flash on HSS.

Why when I have use radion sync, my Max exp. is only 1/160th or even more long (then my shot full highlight) ?
But when I do shot with my flash in hot shoe on the camera, I set up ETTL mode + switch on HSS mode my flash and then 1/4000th (or 1/8000th) work correct for me.

Why HSS it is impossible for me only with my Pixel Rook transmitter and possible in hot shoe on the camera?
I should buy Yongnuo YN-622C for my 430ex II for support HSS mode?
Am I doing something wrong?

If I Google Pixel Rook it says that HSS is only availble till 1/250. So I don't think your trigger is okay for HSS. Maybe look into the YN-622C you mention they work fine withe the Canon 430II
