Bought my first slr last year with a T2i back in september and returned it after 2 weeks to get the T3i and used that till Jan when I upgraded to my 60D. At the time when I did that the upgrade from T3i to 60D ended up only costing me 90 bucks. Now after 7 months I really want to upgrade to the 7D, however, the new "rumors'' of the 70D/7DII has me wanting to wait.

Main reasons for the upgrade to the 7D is better customization, better feel, fps, 19af and most importantly to me is the MA capability. I have a used 85mm that front focuses just slightly and canon wants too much money to calibrate it. Why send that lens off and pay the money when I can just pay that money toward the upgrade to the 7D.

I really want FF however I do alot of kids activities where reach is priority so I'm stuck with the cropper. Eventually if and when I can afford it I really feel I should be a 5D/7D two camera type of guy.

So the questions is... pull the trigger or wait to see what the 70D comes out to be, its speculated to be announced on July 24th. I also really like the fact the 7D has flash exposure compensation button by the top lcd.

One big factor of waiting is if the 70D does basically take on the 7D specs it will still keep a fairly good price. the 30d was released at 1400 and the 40d/50d was released at 1300 and the 60d at 1100... even at 1400 a 70d with 7D specs is a great price

I would wait at this point; also may have "entry-level" FF very shortly. :-)

You could do this every 12-18 months when 'new stuff' is released. There will always be something better in the pipeline or about to be released. I'd jump on a 7D and start shooting. It's a beast of a camera and just downright awesome.

Then you can wait 6 months and really see if the 70D/7D MKII(whatever it is) is better and worth upgrading... and it will be 200-300 dollars cheaper on the used market. Why not let someone else with deeper pockets eat the cost of being an early adapter and you can swoop in and reap the rewards :)

If you ask me, i'd say wait.
I bought the 60D nearly two years after it's release. The hardest thing (just like TV, mobilephones and pc components) is that it all goes too fast.. you buy a brand new phone, BAM.. 6 months later on it's "old" and a new better model is released. You buy a nice LED TV, BAM.. 3 months later it's the same tv but with 3D aswell.. you biuld a beast of a gaming rig... BAM, 7 months later it can't handle the new games released.

The companies make us buy new stuff all the time.. when does it end? It goes too fast.
Look back 20 years.. you bought something and it would last 5-7 years before you needed an upgrade.
Now adays you need to upgrade every 6-12 weeks... it's CRAZY!
I'm buying a new camera around late 2015, no matter what.

Why send that lens off and pay the money when I can just pay that money toward the upgrade to the 7D.

If that list of reasons for upgrading is complete, then I wouldn't bother waiting. The 7D already has what you want and it's not likely to cost you any more than the upcoming 70D. I would expect the 70D to not be everything the 7D is. It will probably have a better sensor (how much better is an open question -- I haven't yet seen any definitive comparisons between, e.g., the T4i and the T3i, to know how much of an improvement of the sensor there is), but it will probably be less of a camera than the 7D, seeing how the 70D will be the successor to the 60D.

The 7D is one of those cameras that comes ever so close to perfection, in my opinion, with the only blemish on it being the vertical banding it exhibits in the deep shadows at low ISO. In every other way, it is superb.

I really want FF however I do alot of kids activities where reach is priority so I'm stuck with the cropper. Eventually if and when I can afford it I really feel I should be a 5D/7D two camera type of guy.

Keep in mind, too, that the difference between crop and full frame isn't the night and day difference that is often claimed. Generally, the difference can only be seen when zoomed to 100%, which is sort of like looking at a wall sized photograph from a couple of feet away. Unless you print really huge, the difference probably won't make any real difference, and the only exception to that is the shallow depth of field characteristic that you can get with full frame. Even that difference is only about a stop.

The bottom line is that the real major advantages of full frame are specialty items, generally, like the ability to use wide angle tilt and shift lenses and get the wide angle effect they were designed to give you.

So the questions is... pull the trigger or wait to see what the 70D comes out to be, its speculated to be announced on July 24th. I also really like the fact the 7D has flash exposure compensation button by the top lcd.

I would decide based on whether or not the 7D will already do what you need it to do. If it will, then waiting buys you nothing. If it won't, then there's little point in doing anything but waiting until something that actually does what you need becomes available.

One big factor of waiting is if the 70D does basically take on the 7D specs it will still keep a fairly good price. the 30d was released at 1400 and the 40d/50d was released at 1300 and the 60d at 1100... even at 1400 a 70d with 7D specs is a great price

The 7D can be had for $1100 from CLP.

Just buy the 5D3 and get on with it or step it up a notch to the 1Dx...

Do you feel that the you've reached the limits of what the 60D is capable of, or is it just a case of upgrade-itis? While there may be a lot of rumors about what the 7D's replacement will be, it's a pretty sure bet that it will be replaced with something soon. The replacement will undoubtedly have updated features and IQ. The price will also likely be higher (it sure as heck won't be lower). I'm in the same boat, but I don't feel a pressing need to upgrade today (tho I am hitting the limits of what my camera can do) and have spent my hobby budget on glass. I'm thinking that my next camera is going to have to last me a long time (my goal is to buy a 500mm f/4 once my car is paid off, and that will wipe out my hobby budget for a loooooong time), so I'm going to wait and see what the 7D2 has to offer.

I very much doubt that. Were that the case, Canon would not bother to release a firmware upgrade for the 7D that gives it additional capabilities.

I suspect the 7D will remain Canon's flagship 1.6x crop camera for at least the next year, if not longer.

I agree, OP if you really want to get a 7D, get it now, don't wait for something that may or may not happen.

With the new firmware for the 7D it makes it much more attractive than it was before. I had a7D but found it a PITA. I could take 2 photos on a tripod and same settings and one would be great and the other would be under or over exposed or misfocussed. I got some great shots out of my 7D but I get a much higher rate of keepers from my 60D. Maybe mine was a one off with a problem but in the end I sold it and ended up with a 60D and a 5D3 pairing and thats like a match made in heaven for me.

i wouldn't wait, if you want a 7D get a 7D. The upcoming 7D FW upgrade is a good indication that a replacement body might not be out soon.

You obviously enjoy upgrading, so I say go for it. Unless you're willing to save up and get the 5diii and be done with it, then just get the 7d.

only one year, three models. Canon loves the serial upgrader.
But if you've got the money keep going. Why not go for the 5D2 at $1400 in the CLP program, then in six months get the 5D3

The 60D is a great camera. If the 7D has features you want/need buy it. Life is short. If the 7D2/70D comes out in a year and you want/need that, buy it. Life is short. If you can afford to upgrade, do it. Life is short.

That said, If I could afford it, I'd be shooting a 5D3, 16-35, 24-105, 70-200 II. My photos wouldn't be any better, but I could put lots of red "L"s in my signature. I would keep my 60D and 100-400L. Reach comes in handy sometimes.
