Not sure what to call it but this is what I want from Canon. Give me the ability to adjust parameters of the camera like no matter what exposure always do +1/3 or 2/3 give me that adjustment and also give me the ability to control how the camera reacts to various other exposure settings like if your in AV I want minimum shutter speed selections. I know the camera uses focal length to determine minimum shutter speed in AV mode automatically but I want to be able to say 2x focal length or 3x for shutter speed.

and the same thing for TV mode... give me adjustments for minimum aperture settings. Usually in TV mode if I'm in low light and I set it to 320 it will automatically set aperture to 2.8 then adjust ISO. screw that I want a minimum setting.

we have that capability in ISO for maximum but NOW I want it for the rest. Give us control Canon... unlock the possibilities!

oh ya, here come you "manual only" guys... screw that, Kids running around from shade to bright light I gotta have some auto capabilities. How about exposure compensation for auto iso eh?... C'Mon Canon... work your magic!

I understand where you're going with this, but something like that would lock you into a spot which could quickly cause you to miss a shot if you needed to exceed that pre-set threshold even slightly. You would have to back out to a menu just to make a minor 1/3 stop change in that threshold.

Why not shoot in "P" mode and use the +/- 5 stops EC on the QCD and the shutter speed wheel to control your min/max shutter speed? I think once people learn to shoot out of P mode, a lot of shooters tend to forget just how good it can be when utilized properly. I'm an old-school film shooter with over 25 years of manual shooting behind me but I still use that P mode from time to time when the situation calls for it. The situation you are describing is a great example of when to use it.

Because I want to be smarter than my camera and I when it comes to my photography I run a monarchy where it's my way and there is no highway therefore the camera needs a sixth sense and read my mind to make adjustments hand free. The only setting that should be on the camera is how fast it can be allowed to read my mind.

You'd probably have more luck if you requested those features from the guys at Magic Lantern than the guys at Canon.

Er, I'm not totally sure (as I only speak English) but it sounds like you want a 1D. That has what I call 'idiot assistant' custom functions that do things like setting shutter speed limitations in Av mode.

I wouldn't call it idiot assistance at all. It would be quite the opposite since a fair amount of intelligence would be used creating parameters for all variables of exposure....I know where he is coming from and I agree that it would be a well worth while addition. Kfreels makes the excellent point of the only, and very major, drawback. Quite possible that you will hit one or more of the limits, and in this case if the shutter won't fire you miss a chance at the shot, but if it does then that defeats the purpose of custom setup. A step further would be if it was smart enough to make the shot in your parameters, and if it can't, you list in order what it sacrifices to make the shot. Say iso first, then aperature then shutter speed. That would be smart.

Idiot assistant, not assistance. I've always assumed it's so that you can set up the camera to minimize the number of stupid settings an idiotic assistant could try to use. So, if they're second shooter at a wedding they can't stupidly set it up in Av mode to get too slow a shutter speed.

That TAv mode would be the same as Manual / Auto ISO except without the EC. I use this fairly often on the 7D, not sure if you can do this with the 60D but it works out great in varying lighting conditions with a long lens where I want to maintain a min. shutter speed. The only thing missing is the EC.

I don't really see the need for what's being asked for here, since usually you can't accomplish what you want due to not enough light, and when you actually can, it's not really an issue.

If you want a minimum shutter speed, but automatic, the use Tv, set the exposure time and that's it.
Now it you neither use safety shift nor auto ISO, you'll get underexposure as soon as your lens can't open far enough.
Enable safety shift and the exposure time will be extended, but only if there aren't large enough apertures to use. Combine with auto ISO, up to a certain limit, and the camera will first open the aperture, then increase the ISO and finally lengthen the exposure time to fit the light.

On top of that you can apply exposure compensation.

Using P will do something similar, except the shutter speed limit will kind of follow what focal length you set your zoom lens at as well as not going down to incredibly small apertures, as the shutter speed will be faster too, if light increases.
Auto ISO and exposure compensation applies here too.

The two functions that I would like to see in Canon cameras are the Pentax TAv mode. As unlike the existing Manual plus auto ISO it allows full EC and bracketing. The other is an option in manual to lock an EV (as you can in P mode) so that you can change shutter speed / aperture without changing the exposure. Using P mode you are reliant on using the cameras exposure meter, I want to be able to choose the exposure that I am using but for example at an airshow set 1/160s at f16 for prop planes and then quickly change to 1/1250 at f5.6 for a fast jet (both are the same EV at constant ISO). I want to use Manual as I also want to use an incident light meter. It is so easy to turn one of the dials the wrong way, or go a couple of clicks to far and get the exposure wrong.

If there is an "except" on the sentence then the "same" can't be. So Manual mode with auto iso is not the same as the TAv. And yeah the 60D can have the Auto ISO, with your max limit set on..

TAv seems like an interesting exposure mode.

If I remeber right on my old Sony Alpha A300 when you where on full manual mode and you hit the lock exposure button, you can move the dial and it will mantain the same exposure (with other shutter speed/aperture setting) no matter what. This is one of the features I really mis from sony alpha.

On the Pentax maybe they can do it also, cuz in terms of features/freedom the K-30 kicks really hard Canon/Nikon/Sony on the $850 segment
