I'm not sure if this one got posted yet or not. Regardless, I did a major re-edit on the PP to make it look more like I saw it. I darkened the sky too much before.

I have been waiting for over a year to get this shot, as the light only shines on both sides at the Sun's lowest angle for several days a year. It's such a high contrast scene that you also have to time the Sun to be right behind the tree in the background in order to keep the lens from going into nuclear meltdown. It only happens for several minutes, and on top of that, you need just the perfect weather.

Thanks for the feedback Rick. :)

Very surreal light. Usually the type that has to be photoshopped in, but not this time. 100% natural.

One of the better "Orb In The Frame" shots I've seen here on POTN.

Kudos for taking the time to get all the elements aligned.

amazing.

if you dont mind me asking, which process did you use to grab the exposure of the trees in the foreground? Do you just zoom in superclose and take your time brushing the layer?

Everything except the blue in the sky is from one exposure. I did no lighting work at all on the trees or foreground. All I did was lift the global shadows a little in RAW conversion. The rest is all 100% natural.

Side note. It's funny how this scene look like a world I designed for a Lord of the Rings video game (War in the North).

I was given the opportunity to design a section of the Lothlórien Elf forest, which was a ravine too, but takes place at night.

I pulled a lot of inspiration from this natural area in the design of the LOTR environment.
