I don't think they are being made anymore, and the II's aren't shipping which makes them scarce.

The Mark II has been delayed and the original version has been discontinued and are selling out.

The latest from Canon was that the 24-70 Mark II won't be available until mid-September. It was originally supposed to be avail. late this month or early in August.
