I can't get the 430EX II to fire the IR Assist beam when it's wireless and I half press shutter button. . All I get is a constant IR flash all the time. Have I set my 7D up properly?

In point 3 of the Manual is this only for a speedlight 'attached' to the hot shoe, or should I be able to set the IR Beam [only not the pre flash] to flash on my 430EX II to flash when set up Wirelessly?

Extract Per 7D manual:
C.Fn III -11 AF-assist beam firing
The AF-assist beam can be emitted by the camera’s built-in flash or by an
external, EOS-dedicated Speedlite.
0: Enable
1: Disable
The AF-assist beam is not emitted.
2: Enable external flash only
If an external, EOS-dedicated Speedlite is attached, it will emit the AFassist
beam when necessary.
3: IR AF assist beam only
Among EOS-dedicated Speedlites, only those which have an infrared AF-assist
beam will be able to emit the beam. This prevents any Speedlite which uses a
series of small flashes (like the built-in flash) from firing the AF-assist beam.

I believe thats when the flash is mounted on the camera it will do the red infared assist. not when it's triggered wirelesssly

The wireless sensor on the front of the 430 slave is to be pointed at the master flash for more reliable triggering. That usually means the AF assist lamp won't be pointed at the subject and no, the slave won't emit an assist beam.

+1 infrared assist only works with the flash on camera

Much appreciated guys - that what I suspected but just wondered if I'd got it wrong as generally Canon call the Speedlite mounted on the body an "External" Speedlite. But here they didn't.
