Go ahead and feel great about what you got...cuz it's what you are stuck with. One thing about this forum is that when yhou ask for opinions, you will get them, and 9 out of 10 times, people will tell you to save up for the more expensive/better/lighter etc...

Don't get all bent out of shape when people don't tell you what you want to hear. I'm sure you will get great satisfaction from your new tripod--use it in good health.

Now see, I'm not bent out of shape, and I'm not that happy about my purchase, I'm a guy that can ONLY afford so much NOW.
(I type in BOLD because it makes it stand out more, I'm not yelling at all)
My deal has already gone through, it's, like I have already said, "A done deal", I am not needing any more opinions on what I need to BUY, because I have already bought it. Feel free to use this thread to tell others what they need to do, that may help them out in a future purchase, but it's not going to help me at this point in time, like I have already stated before you wrote what you did. I could get bent out of shape because nobody sees how I have already explained how I am no longer in need for any more opinions, but I don't need to. What needs to happen is for readers to actually read what is already put right before them, that's what needs to happen.
Now that's helpful, maybe someone will use that to prevent themselves from making the same mistake.

In other words, I wrote a very polite question, I was very polite when someone gave me an opinion, I wrote a response to my own reply to say that I bought something that 'I' believe is going to work. I did that so someone that is thinking of doing like me, they can come back and read it later to see how I fared. I am a very polite and very conscientious person, always, but I don't see how anyone can think that anyone can come on here 'after the fact' and tell me what I need to buy, 'after the fact', that is not at all helpful to me, to others down the line, yeah, but not me.
Also, if you have read what I wrote, you would see that I agreed and would love to buy what has been mentioned, I can't,
I just can't...

I hope that straightens up any problems here, I'm not being a smart-aleck,I asked for opinions and I got them, I politely said thank you! I don't understand how 'after the fact' people think think they are being helpful 'to me' telling me what I should buy, that doesn't make sense, and it is not helpful, not at all. (Go back and read any posts I have made and find a smart-aleck response, or a crazy one, I'm not that way)

You could tell me what car you have and I could give you an opinion (if I wanted) and tell you how you should not to buy the tires you bought, because in 'my opinion', they aren't good enough. I wouldn't dream of that.

So thank you for hoping I get satisfaction out of MY tripod, I agree with you, I hope I do too.

Randy

It's not me that this is getting to, and I don't know who "us" is, but I'll more than likely sleep well, I usually do.

End of discussion as far as the 'after the fact' goes, if anyone wants to contribute something that is worthwhile, with good reasoning, with links, in a helpful tone, etc., please do.

Just in case anyone cares, or it helps someone in the future, I went with the Induro 413 (external link) version as David brought to my attention, from B&H...
(I had planned on possibly getting the 412, but I wanted to make sure I'd get the best for my situation)
After reading more, this is overkill for my situation, probably, but I'd rather have that than not. Plus, this was several dollars cheaper at B&H than where I 'normally' do business, at Amazon, Amazon now charges tax to us Texas customers, so other places will soon be getting my business, I guess...
Don't get me wrong, nothing's wrong with Amazon at all, but the difference was quite a bit, so that's what I ended up doing.

Also, in the Reviews (external link) on this tripod, there was a guy that did a mod to it to get rid of the middle column to replace it with a Really Right Stuff plate to mount, that sounds like what I'd like to do, or think about... That would at least get rid of another pound, if not more.

Again, thanks to all that helped, and hopefully I'll update this to show what I think about it, it should be here by the end of the week.

Randy

Did you receive the tripod yet?

I did, but I really haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
What I see, I like though, I just wasn't going to reactivate this thread due to it's strangeness. heheh
If anyone's really interested in how the tripod is, as far as working, build, and how I like it, please let me know, I'll answer any (sane) questions. :D
(It's really been way too hot for me to go anywhere to use this, to be honest)

Thank you!

Randy

It did go sour for some reason.
I would like to know how the 413 handles the big 400.

David,

I'll update this later on after I get some real world use out of the tripod, I haven't gotten much real world use out of anything I have really lately, so I can't say when I'll have any news on it.
:)

As soon as I know something solid, I'll definitely let you know though.

Not trying to dis your tri-pod choice, but have you seen this thread

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=620797

It may not be a concern but you may be pushing the 055XPROB to the limit with the camera gear you own. Just a thought...;)
