I found a used Canon 15mm fisheye for $650. Currently the new Sigma is $609. As I would be buying either online, I'm unsure which to get. I know Sigma as a brand has had qualtiy control issues, so my copy could be sharp or not, which is what makes me pause... And I've read here great things about both. Which would you get?

Get the Sigma, it's cheaper from what you've said and new and the warranty will cover a bad focusing copy.

New over second hand any day, but that is just me. If you go Sigma just make sure it has warranty. I cannot speak for Canada but over here in Australia the warranty is terrific and they never question it if you have a problem. You get the choice of a replacement lens or having the lens calibrated to your body. I have a few Sigma lenses now and so far have only had issues with one and it was swapped straight away. I love using them as much as I love using my L glass.

I would go Canon if I wanted one with AF. But for a fisheye I'd personally choose one of those cheap all manual types like the Peleng or Samyang 8mm. Though they are the full circular kind with the black edge on full frame AFAIK.

Completely agree with the Peleng/Samyang suggestion. Fisheyes spend a lot of time in the bag. Unless you think you will really reach for it often, start with one of these. Don't spend the money until you know your use demands it.

This appears to be from a Peleng-bias site so I wouldn't use it to draw conclusions but it will show you the view from a FF: http://www.peleng8.com/peleng-vs-samyang.html (external link)

Thanks for all your suggestions. I've considered the Peleng/Samyang, but I really like AF, so I'm pretty set on the sigma or the canon... I actually bought the Canon 8-15 back in the spring, but decided it was too much money and returned it.

Another to look at is the tokina 10-17 fisheye. It's techically for a cropbody but works fine at 15 to 17mm on a full frame, or 13-17 on a 1.3 crop body.
You could also use it at the normal 10-17 on your 50D.

In my mind it's not worth buying a top end fisheye unless you have a specific purpose or regular use for it. Whilst they're great in some situations, most don't end up using them a whole lot.
