hey guys, i am looking to buy a Sigma 10-20mm lens tomorrow. i was wondering if i should get any filters with it as well while i purchase it. the cheapest i can find it for is 479.99 dollars, if anyone knows any place selling it for cheaper please let me know.

i am probably going to buy it off of BH Photo if no local stores have it in stock

i do plan on getting filters, at least a CPL and a ND. not a uv, i learned that on here lol

il look for filters tomorrow, but can someone link me to a decent filter to start off with? i don't mind spending a lil on one if its worth it, just nothing over 75 dollars each, if it has to be that much.

i have the 18-55 kit lens with cpl lens coming in tomorrow. i have the t3i if that helps.

thank you for reading, and if you post.

appreciate it, -- Keith

A CPL might not be so useful on an ultrawide due to the polarization of the sky changing over such a wide field of view. Since you have CPL for your 18-55 (a much more suitable focal length range for CPL use) I'd use that first. It's sharp when stopped down for landscapes, which is when you'd use the CPL.

I would definitely get a good ND filter though, I used to use one on my 10-20 myself. A 3 stop (0.9) ND is what I'd start off with. Something nice and thin so you don't get vignetting.

You aren't going to find a new, quality 77mm multi-coated CPL for $75 or less. Count on spending $100 or more. That said, don't just buy a cheap one, because it's all you can afford right now... better to wait and save a bit, to buy a quality one. ND's are much cheaper though.

I have both CPL and Vari ND - UWA lens typically do not play well when a lot of sky is visible in your photo, due to strong vignetting. I have been very pleased with the results of the Marumi however.

+2 on the Marumi filters. Excellent value. They are now my go to filters.

Why not just wait it? Good things happen to people that wait. With Sigma's low used market value, you really can't go wrong. Try Kijiji, Craigslist and eBay. Or go for the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 if you can't find the Sigma. It's more or less the same price compared to the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5.

Yes, and hopefully before too long..Tokina will release the new version of this lens, and maybe used prices will drop. ;)

I had mine when i had my old, new at the time XSI. it was my most used lens on that camera, then i got my 7D and it was still just as good. Excellent price range and makes for some nice wide shots. I highly recommend it
