A little bit of history today. This ditch is what remains of the Antonine Wall, a 40 mile structure built by the Romans to keep the Scots out. It held for over 20 years, but the Romans, at the end of a long and vulnerable supply chain, eventually had to retreat a hundred miles or so to the more famous Hadrian's Wall in the north of England.

[QUOTE=alan_potter;16863350]A little bit of history today. This ditch is what remains of the Antonine Wall, a 40 mile structure built by the Romans to keep the Scots out. That's cool Alan.

The history over here across the pond is far more recent.

So yesterday was my 39th birthday, so after 24 hours of debauchery the only photo I can share publicly is this...

So thats not entirely true, but it was a hell of a day!

It is interesting that while we have cool history in the US, not alot of it relates to modern society like history in europe. The cultures from 800 years ago in the US did not leave the same impact on the earth as the Romans.

Love the statues from abacus and the sky in vegabond's! Is that a polarising filter?

I am lucky to live in an area with so much history that happened here. Apart from the Roman wall, the area where I live is central to much of the fighting between Scotland and England from the thirteenth through to the sixteenth century - indeed, I believe that my house is built upon land that was used by William Wallace as a camp on the eve of the first Battle of Falkirk, in 1298.

Anyway, today my thoughts were on much more up-to-date events - in particular, a gala at my daughter's figure skating club. I was proud of all of the skaters - they were great - but of course I was especially proud of my Jenni!

That was the one where I was out getting a different shot (sun set, with two ferries passing each other on Elliott Bay) took a few minutes practicing tracking birds in flight for ****s and giggles, and when I pulled the photos off, there was this.

No, it was not planned and carefully composed that way. Lucky shot.

I have one I took a few years ago of the blue angels Navy jet flying team, flying past and a US flag in the fore ground. Similar thing. With as fast as they go past, there is no way I could have gotten it if I was trying too. I was just firing off shots as fast as I could. You had possibly 2-3 seconds as they flew over the Seattle skyline. One happened to be behind the flag.
