I think the only way I'd go back to the inconvenience of using film would be shooting 4X5 or larger format.

I started this whole journey using manual-everything-non-metered 35mm (using the sunny 16 rule) and went from there to large format and lugging a tripod and field camera.
I finally got a metered camera (Nikkormat Ftn) when everyone else seemed to be using the new fangled Aperture or Shutter priority (depending on if you used Nikon or Canon) and shook my head in despair at what had become of photography.
Then came Auto-focus and I poo-pooed that whilst I'd learned to embrace the Aperture priority setting.
Scanning and Photoshop?! I'd never! True photographers do their work in darkrooms!

Of course, I find that with my progressing tremor...just when I enthusiastically embrace the newest tech I can afford...I have to fall back to using a monopod/tripod most of the time.
