If you didn't want a comment on your work situation, then why did you post it? People WILL comment because it's stupid to be going out to spend money on camera gear when you don't even have a job.

You don't like people giving an opinion, too damn bad. No one needs your permission to give an opinion.

YOUR post was far more rude and condescending than anything anyone has written to you. No one needs your crappy attitude just because you can't deal with an opinion.

If you wanted a 100% camera opinion, then your original post should have reflected it. YOU chose to include about your job, so people will comment on it. Grow thicker skin or learn how to write.

Wow! This is much better than my feeble attempt at sarcasm. WooHoo!

Obviously there is a communications gap here (reading phone texting is part of the issue here perhaps), so perhaps we can just let it all go at this point, and try to get to the root question.

Buying a used 5D2 is a very good option. I might have missed what you are shooting with currently in all the hoopla, but it might help also to know what equipment you have currently (body and lenses), if any.

Getting something like the 7D with EFS lenses might come in at a lower cost than a 5D2 and lenses, for example a 7D with a 17-55 IS gives wonderful results at a lower price tag than a 5D2 and a 24-105 IS, for example (which is the 17-55 IS equivalent on a FF).

However, again, a used 5D2 from a reputable shop that will stand behind that purchase is a great thing to consider.

If your plan includes shooting weddings then you really need to be thinking about how you can buy 2 cameras so that you have one for a backup in case something happens to your primary camera on the day of a wedding......

+1 on this.

And actually the older 5Dc would be a very good backup for the MKII. Same FF field of view and a certain amount of familiarity if troubleshooting became an issue.

And forgot the most important thing of all: welcome to POTN :D.

You'll find a wealth of information here on just about any topic you can think of .......as well as a variety of opinions, solicited and unsolicited ...... which is the nature of a public forum when you post personal info. But in addition to posting, use the search feature. It works reasonably well with the odd surprise, but will give some helpful hits. If it doesn't work like you expect, just rearrange your search words or try a different category. In all the years I've been here I've never NOT found some helpful info ;). - Stu

not a semi/full pro like you my pickle, but i've bought 6 used camera bodies off potn here and fredmiranda - xti/40ds/50ds,1d2n in my quest for bif/airplane pictures, none had a warranty

i would think that the used 5d2 with a warranty would be an excellent choice for use in wedding gigs
you have lenses for full frame? if so you're set GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

wants for Ls :D , now have 400do;500f4is,600f4 :cool: off to birding and airshows:):):)

Well....

It seems to me that there are a number of places you could get a new 5Dii for only a little more than the £1200 you local dealer wants for a used one.

I have taken some pictures at weddings with my 50D (and 20D come to that) and have been very pleased with the results, BUT if weddings and portrait photography was my main thing, I would most probably go for a 5D series camera.

As my main interests are sports and wildlife, the 7D is currently looking brightest on my own radar and as you say a new one of those can be had for quite a bit less than £1200. So if it were my choice I'd go 7D.

BTW, this is an internet forum. Nobody here knows you (or me for that matter). We can only go on the information you post.

Some background on your current level of equipment and experience might help folks to provide more appropriate advice. As for your sensitivity over comments made about your work situation; you raised the subject in your first post, so don't be surprised when people give their opinion. If you only wanted opinions on the camera choice, then you initial post might have simply been:

Help, I'm trying to choose between a used 5Dii from a Canon dealer and a new 7D which is about the same price £1200. I like to shoot weddings and portraits and currently have the following gear.. Any insights into the benefits or pitfalls of buying used would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Just my 2 cents. Good luck..
