Yes, that background is distracting. What if Rick had gotten closer say two feet, then background would have been further away and perhaps more of a indistinct blur instead of out of focus objects. Seems like the further away you are from the specimen the more the lens will compact the object with the background, especially if the background is closer to the specimen than the specimen is to the lens. Anyways just a thought. Dennis

Anyways just a thought. I had a limit due to terrain as to how close I could get. Here is the same image with an f11 look to it, the BG may be a bit more blurry. and less distracting. Canon 5D
