I mainly focus on doing automotive photography, this being my only 2nd month in business, I am looking in the near future when the winter comes and business dies down. I have been thinking of branching out into other areas but my kit needs to be updated for that, and with no spare money at the moment, won't be happening anytime soon. I will probably add a 70-200 f/4 and swap out my 50 1.4 for a 85 1.8.

What do you guys do when your main season of shooting is done?
Any ideas what other areas I can branch out into? Nothing concrete, just something to chew on.

my busiest automotive season is January thru March, mostly because everyone in Canada and on the East Coast is hiding from blizzards :) I usually get a list of 10 to 20 cars after SEMA that need to be shot between December and March, plus all the new race cars usually need shots for hero cards and sponsors in March. But that's one of the perks of working in Socal, not a state or province with a winter.

I also did some work for some corporations last year. Headshots for sine corporate websites / corporate awards, event coverage of a national sales seminar in Arizona, some product photography, etc. I never seem to have a slow month, even when I try to avoid taking gigs.

It gets really hot in my main market in the summer, so I run away to Minnesota where it's nicer.

I'm a 28 year old snow bird. Not ashamed to admit it.

There is something to shoot year round. There is no off-season.

What's an off season? I don't even know what a day off is anymore.

January is usually my peak for business portraits as my regular clients are doing their annual updates.

In February, I'm revamping my marketing plan and materials and working on whatever ideas I got out of the PPA Imaging convention.

Things are actually slower for me right now because of the extreme heat than they were last winter when the winter weather was extremely mild.
