so very sorry to hear about Ashley Lonnie

you never know , she could be on the 'mend'

Thanks, Marie. She does seem to be feeling a lot better the past two or three days. That's good, I suppose. I doubt she's on the mend, though. This isn't something you recover from. The same heart and liver condition is what killed my dad. With medication she could possibly live a couple more years, but she'll never reach "old age" for a dog. I'm glad I was able to show her so much in her short life. She's packed more into the last five years than most dogs will ever see and do in a lifetime.

Oh! I am so sorry. I know only to well the range of emotions you must be going through. I have a sibe that just started having Grand Mal seizures from a brain tumor. She is a fantastic hiking partner, and an even better sled dog. I wish you all the best in her treatment. Enjoy her remaining moments with great passion!

Thanks for the condolences, and I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Is that something she can be treated for?

On a lighter note, I just got off the phone with Ashley's doctor. The results from the echocardiogram came in and they are negative for any significant changes to her heart. While the x-rays show she does have an enlarged heart, he said it isn't enough so to be something to worry about at this time. In other words, he gave me the green light to start taking her hiking again. She'll be glad about that! :D I'll take it real easy on her for a while and stick to the shorter trails in Griffith Park that don't have too much elevation gain, then work her way back into the mountains.

I feel so relieved right now...

Oh, man, am I glad that I skipped past everyone else's comments! I was pretty freaking bummed out after reading the original post, but now I feel much better after reading this.

The best to the both of you.

My heart goes out to you, but take each day as it comes. My dog, named saxon pasted away a few weeks ago, a big black Newfoundland, but he will always be in my mind, of all the good times , and the bad times.
