Hey guys!
I'm a bit of a stalker her on canon forums. I'm looking to get into some off camera lighting. I have a 5dmkii and I'm going to be adding a 5dmkIII to the mix. I shoot weddings occasionally and my wife comes along. I'm planning on having her shoot with the mkII. I want to be able to add some off camera flashes to the mix. I currently have 2 580 ex II's but am looking at adding some extra flashes for the weddings. This is where the issue arises. I have no clue which trigger set to use.

I wan't to be able to use on camera flash as well as off camera flash. I like the zone capability of the pocket wizard III but I want to be able to use the hot shoe for one of my 580 ex II's. Any and all thoughts are welcome.
Thanks in advance!

This is what I found:

I am using YongNuo RF-603C so I can stack my flash on one of the transmitter which is on my camera to trigger second flash with YN-603 receiver.

You can either use a hot shoe adapter like this one: http://flashzebra.com/products/0126/index.shtml (external link) or connect your Pocket Wizard to the camera's PC sync terminal.

Hello Akbuuur,
I have the same desire to maintain a flash on camera(with ettl capability) while also utilizing off camera flashes. From my research and good input here, I went with with the Phottix Strato II (external link), $99.00. It allows pass-through ettl, meaning your camera mounted flash retains ettl capability even though mounted via transmitter in hot shoe. All the off camera flashes will have to be set manually. It also allows multiple photogs to utilize the same off camera flashes via different channels and the unit is supposed to be very solid.

A Yongnuo 603 transceivers can be mounted in the camera hot shoe with a flash mounted on it but there are two issues. 1) It doesn't have ettl passthrough capability. Therefore your on camera flash must be set manually as with your off camera flashes (the reason I sold mine). 2) The flash is very precarious/wobbly as there is no locking nut. A piece of paper added in the hotshoe makes it more secure but still not ideal.

Pixel Kings are great, as I've been told, but you cannot simultaneously fire an on camera flash with off camera flashes, with the transmitter/flash mounted in the hotshoe.

Good luck, Ralph

The better flash brackets have mounts that allow you to attach a radio transmitter/trigger; I've used two Custom Brackets models and they both had optional mounts to use with triggers. I currently use a Custom Brackets Junior (external link) and it has optional mounts (look in the Accessories tab of the link above).

But a bracket adds a fair amount of weight and aren't always very maneuverable so you could do something like use a small bungee to strap the tripper to the camera body, or use velcro.
