I originally had his face brighter but it just didn't seem to look right. Is this fine like this or should I go brighter in the face.

I would be tempted to clone out the hair and ears sticking out from behind the mask.

I'm not sure that the black background is a good choice, as the mask gets lost in it. Maybe a dark gray? Or a bit of glow added in post processing around the borders of the mask?

Iwas tempted to do that myself actually. I may try it tonight to see how it works.
