I've been eying up the Chris Boardman range of bikes in Halfords.. Seem like good base bikes that are easily upgradeable. Just need somewhere to keep it?!

I've been thinking about getting some studio space but need it to be cheep one idea I've come up with is to get a storage unit and use that as I know people have converted garages etc to studio use and I just wondered what people thoughts were about this would you be put off by a guy who used a storage unit as a studio?

Thanks for posting them Clare, the IQ of that camera looks great.

I am sorely tempted to get one, although the poor macro made me stop and pause (and now the money has just been merged into the household)

I didn't take that many stills with it - but it is NOT a camera for low light / indoor shots. The little flash is cute but not exceptional ... So in my goal to find a single camera to take skiing, I have failed!! I loved the video on it, and the ability to have something small that takes very good shots, well it wins those challenges. Carrying it around in place of th SLR was very successful.

Looks though you did well always tricky with snow and the exposure let alone a new camera.

Really like the video footage, you did a great job of skiing and videoing which is never easy

I had a little stick mount - so imagine a 6 inch rod like the top of a ski pole. As I ski on blades (short skis) I don't usually carry anything in my hands - so videoing was easy. The 22mm lens wasn't very good tho (no image stabilisation) but the 18-55 was brilliant.

This is me on my blades

Me! (external link) by Clare Forster (external link), on Flickr

According to ski tracks my max speed this year was 90kph ... Still reckon that was a software glitch as altho I go fast, I don't believe I go THAT fast!!!

Klystron wrote in post #15738623 (external link)
So you got one Clare, I have not really tried the video yet on mine, maybe something for a cycle road race. But I like it.
Rich, its a great little camera, a lot easier to carry around.

Adrian, so you got sorted then, now you have to get out on it.

Yup - got it about 3 days before I went away so had to learn how to use it whilst away. Did you know when reviewing your shots you can zoom in by doing a two finger apple-style zoom motion on the touch screen?? Amazing technology!

Ronin Silv wrote in post #15738656 (external link)
Nice shots Clare looks like the new camera performed well.

Definitely performed well except in low light situations which was no surprise. I haven't yet tried other lenses on it but will be doing that now I'm back ... Watch this space ...

yes I had worked that out, also you can swipe left and right.
I turned of the screen shutter, as I found I wa taking photos while it was in my hand , but I like you can select the focus point by touching the screen.
I also like its discreet, so you can take a photo without people knowing.

Definitely. A studio should look like a studio, in fact I'm not sure you're even allowed to do that sort of thing with a storage unit are you?

Chris I'm not sure but I do know of people who use them to rehearse their bands in and offices, it's just a thought the trouble is space is not cheep to rent and even though I can rent a studio at discounted rates it's still not cheep plus it's 10 miles away from me.

Here's couple from today we didn't shoot that many because the weather turned with the wind picking up and when the sun went in the temperature dropped like a stone.

I have a Boardman Hybrid Comp, very good bike for the money. And I have made various upgrades/additions to mine - better tyres, clipless pedals, bar ends, mudguards (best addition ever!) and a decent rack to hold my gear when commuting. I'm thinking about a different saddle too now, it is ok for short rides but anything over 15 miles and it starts to get uncomfortable.

Dom, I think the first one is over saturated and she doesn't look as comfy compared to #2 which is a nicer pose. #2 I think you could warm up a tad and its a nice shot.

Morning all,

Looks like we will need to start a spin off thread for the SEUK cyclers:D:D

@Dom If you can I would not go for a studio as it would definitely put some people off. The other option is how often do you do shoots and would it be cheaper to rent a sudio for the morning or day as you need to. When I have seen them advertised they quite often already come with lighting and assistance to use it. Personally using studio lighting and getting to grips with posing is on the agenda for this year.

Re your two pictures the lighting now that you are not in a confined space is definitely much more even and the cold does always makes it hard

Thanks Ian, I thought that the first was over saturated and it being cold didn't help we only did about 25 shots in total at two locations 12 being on medium format film which I'm taking down to be developed today can't wait to see how they have come out.

Adrian studio wise to rent round here I only have one option and even though it does have lighting and I would get a discount it is still pricey for what I do I'm going to put my thinking cap on about this as I do need more space but with the warmer weather coming more location shooting is the order of the day.

Dom what about putting up a huge shed in your garden - is that an option? I'm v lucky to have our downstairs spare room to use as a studio. When I'm not using it, Mr G has it to do his weights in. Works well for both of us. I've been wondering about putting a skylight in (it has a flat roof) to let more light in.

Great ski-ing shots Clare, I've been looking at them on fb too.

Great idea, it would pay for itself pretty quickly and be rent free forever. Much more professional than a rented storage unit for sure too.

I've been very busy with work recently, so not been shooting at all. Just finished a deadline and been going through my archives and re-editing with LR. Hope it's okay to share older shots here.

My friends back in Colorado have been sharing their ski pictures on Facebook, so I've been reminiscing about my days in the mountains...

Cracking idea, one small problem I don't have a garden big enough to do this.

Fuzz like the ski shots.
