Evening all, been a bit quiet on here as been busy with work and too exhausted on the weekends. Only 4 more days til holiday back to the UK and I can't wait.

Anyway, I've resurrected the Basel photo group here on the English Forum and a group of us went to Photobörsen, a photography flea market with some pretty old bits of gear including a whole set of Hassleblad MF kit which was very tempting indeed.

Afterwards went off to do some Urbex at a disused rail line and bridge in Basel - had to climb 4 m of pylon to get there but so worth the trip.
Some shots:

Andy the grass infront of the nutatch seems to be the point of focus, I can't remember if anyone else mentioned it when you posted them first time round. It would definitley be worth micro adjusting your lens. Also your shutter speed is 1/80 when you are shooting at 400mm, your iso is 400 so it would be worth upping that so you can get faster shutter speeds.

I noted that on the first round and these were the first shots that really showed how the lens was "front focusing". I MA'd the lens to +2 as a result but haven't had a chance to test it yet. As the shots were taken in single point focus mode and the bird on point as shot, then cropped following ROT's, it proves what I had suspected all along.

Slow shutter speed and low ISO are just down to me being an A**e!

Need to find time and some decent light to use some kind of prop as a focal point and check the lens again in a very similar scenario.

Cheers Adrian.

Use a tape measure.

I hear what you're saying Andy but last time I used that method, I ended up being led the wrong way with the adjustment. Besides, At that range (200m + 2XTC) a solid object shot at a low angle like the nuthatch works for me. I don't mind spending the time to do it that way. Gives me something to shoot. :)

Either that or some newspaper or something with fine print. put the camera on a tripod and try it at different settings say +2, +4, etc and see which works best. The other Andy pointed it out to me and ended up adjusting my lenses to +10. I would be surprised if +2 would be enough.
Remember to do it with all your lenses with and without the extender.

Found this on the firmware update thread

Autofocus with the 5D mkIII to f8 with extenders:D:D.....Mark you can sell the 1DX

I'm sure this was posted before, the announcement was waaaaay back in October, but if the schedule holds, we are just weeks away from an update to 5D MKIII that will bring it up to 1 Series class AF @ f/8

Press Release

NEW FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR CANON EOS 5D MARK III DIGITAL SLR CAMERA PROVIDES UNCOMPRESSED HDMI OUTPUT SUPPORT AND IMPROVED AF PERFORMANCE

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 23, 2012—Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced a new firmware update for the EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR camera that significantly improves the camera’s performance and usability. In response to requests from professionals working in the fields of cinema and television production, the firmware update enables the use of uncompressed HDMI Output support, making possible more efficient video editing and monitoring procedures. Additionally, the upgrade supports the advanced needs of photographers through improved AF performance when capturing still images.
Uncompressed HDMI Output Support

When shooting video, HDMI Output makes possible the recording of high-definition uncompressed video data (YCbCr 4:2:2, 8 bit) from the EOS 5D Mark III to an external recorder via the camera’s HDMI terminal. This, in turn, facilitates the editing of video data with minimal image degradation for greater on-site workflow efficiency during motion picture and video productions. Additionally, video being captured can be displayed on an external monitor, enabling real-time, on-site monitoring of high-definition video during shooting.
Improved AF Functionality

Even when the EOS 5D Mark III is equipped with an extender and lens making possible a maximum aperture of f/8, the firmware update supports AF employing the camera’s central cross-type points (currently compatible with maximum apertures up to f/5.6). Accordingly, the update will allow users to take advantage of AF when shooting distant subjects, benefitting sports and nature photographers, particularly when using telephoto lenses.

The new firmware update will be available, at no charge, in April 2013 from the Canon U.S.A. website and can be downloaded by end users or through Canon Factory Service Centers.

I had a softbox lighting the background one as a side light and a beaut dish aimed at Sian with the reflector under her printing up so I'm not really sure how to solve the problem.

I'm not sure there really is a 'problem' to fix. These are some of the cleanest, best lit images I've seen you post.

I have to say I totally agree, these are great Dom, lighting looks fab, poses look great & the make up is really good... top draw sir!

Morning folks, I hope everyone's well?

I've got a 4 day week to get through then it's holiday time (hopefully combined with some new toys time) off to Norfolk for some fresh air and photo taking (hopefully) anyone else got any fun Easter type stuff organised?
