Hey BB. Quick heads up. As I was driving past the Shell Garage at Send this morning there was a Red Kite circling the woods behind the garage. He/she was quite low so a 300mm should be good enough. Thought I'd seen them there before but wasn't sure, now I AM sure! This was about 06:20 and he flew in from the direction of Send Village with a really determined flight path so I guess those woods are a good hunting ground for them. Might head over there in the next few days as I'm now on hols until the 8th, care to join me? Anyone else?

Hi Andy

Do you mean by the roundabout @ Burnt Common Shell station? So when you say woods just where as there are lots of houses 'behind' the garage??? As there is no longer a petrol station in Send Village itself.

I did spot a pair of Buzzards in the large field the other side of the A3 towards Clandon but this was a good few weeks ago. As for Red Kites their range is slowly expanding from the M40 corridor/Wycombe/Maidenhead area....saw a couple near Theale but never this far south???

Certainly worth a gander so lets keep this open :D

That's exactly where I mean. Just after Christmas, I was servicing the chillers at Connaught House Next to the Plumb Centre and caught a fleeting glimps of a large BOP above the woods down Burnt Common Lane. Assumed it was a Buzzard but the tail gives Red Kites away. This was definitely a Red Kite!

Looking at this on the laptop Dom, the B+W looks better but still has a slight red hue to it. The colour shot is good but a little over-saturated. Could well be the screen as I've discovered. I'll check them on the PC monitors when I get home and see if they look better there>

Nice capture, very natural, candid shot.

Ah! well that is no more than about 200 yards away :D we walk to the garage sometimes to get the newspapers, so will keep a keener eye open as depending the height it/they fly I should be able to see it from the back bedroom window...............but you cannot stand for ages just staring out of the window

@ Dom ~ overall I prefer the colour but as Andy says the saturation looks odd. In the B&W the lads left hand looks very odd, washed out & ghostly :(

Looks like you have Red Kites on tap the way I have Buzzards. Best of luck with getting a good shot and I look forward to seeing them.

Well we shall see what I can see, thanks for the heads up :D

I have always loved to see them when in the Berkshire area so if they are spreading this way I would be delighted to see them and get those pictures.

Have no idea yet as to what we are doing this weekend as the weather looks pants, so if you are heading this way do let me know as may be able to meet up?

Won't be around this weekend as Mrs Spud has booked all days for friends/family visits and face painting! Away on a training course in Leeds Tuesday to Thursday morning but after that............

yes. I don't quite know what we'll do if the forecast is dreadful, I'll have to email Will from AP about it and see what he thinks.

this was everyone who said they were coming.

Sunday April 7th. Late afternoon into the evening.

Clare, Penel, Wayne, Matt, Lee, Andy, Andy, Jo, Mark, possibly Dom, possibly Madseavets Steve.

Areas suggested are Covent Garden / Leicester Square / Chinatown / Trafalgar Square / The Mall.

My question is - if you have been what do you recommend she takes - oh and she uses the 7D. Thanks in advance
