I am slowly stepping into the people photography, this is my friend who is always happy to model for me. I still have a hard time saying what I want, I got the image or pose in my head, but still find it difficult to describe or explain it.

first directing, just do it, once you start doing it it becomes second nature.

1. sun in the front, or use a reflector, need to get more light on the face.

2. get some light reflected under her chin to dampen them shadows.

overall, focus is clean maybe try some better composition techniques to engage the viewer more.

As far as posing clients or friends, if you have poses you like print them out and put them in plastic sleeves in a binder and you can show someone what you want. Also they can pick the ones they feel comfortable with. I find it easier to show them what I'm looking for than describing it. You will still have to watch for clinched fists and little details like hand and foot positions but it gives you a good start.

Yea also a fill flash helps with shadows and backlit subjects.

Your friend is also a very attractive lady. That always helps. I like that first shot on the swing. Watch cutting off feet or limbs at joints.

Thank you all so far, I did buy a disc with 100 poses. I think I'll be printing them out soon, and putting them in a binder like you described AginKajun.

It's at home so I'll have to check. I might be able to do a search on google though.

You have all the poses you will ever need right here on the POTN. If you have a smart phone, put them in it....we use iPads, and have a different posebook for each type session.

I don't have a smart phone, I have an Android. Where exactly can I find these poses?

Free soul, if you have an Android then find the "Posing App" from creator "Mendo Sia". Has a lot of different poses for Models, Women, Children, Men etc. It cost $1.99 and I think its well worth it! Here is the link for it:

If you have an Android phone then you have a smartphone, unless you were making fun of Android in which case it's a genius joke ;)

I just got this app and it is worth it. Not only for what it has but for what it doesn't have any of ..... fluff or garbage. There is none! It's just straight to the point.. posing. One thing it doesn't go over is lighting but you cant include everything and heck it was only 1.99. For me it's worth the $2 in info. It uses sketches not photos which is good as it shows the pose very well.

Yup I like cigars. 7d, T1i and a bunch of other junk.

Just save images of poses you like here within the thousands of threads onto your phone. Or you can save them into Dropbox or other app on your computer into folders and pull them up on your phone as needed.
