So I have a meeting tomorrow with a marketing company regarding some freelance work. I've talked to a few pros in my area and they said that average rates were roughly $250 for less than 4 hours and then $500 for anything longer than that but thats about the extent of information that I got. I've heard some things about editing fees, per picture charges, etc. I guess what I'm wondering is, what types of charges are kosher? What charges should be standard for every shoot, and what charges should be situational? Any information is greatly appreciated.

find out what they want, then tell them you'll work up a quote and get it over to them.

It entirely depends on what the image is used for.

I did a photoshoot for a major fortune 500 company. The actual shoot took less than 30 minutes, but I gave them a quote that's above your 'more than 4 hours' rate and they agreed to it in a heartbeat. The image ran for 1 week on the front of their corporate website. If Nike or Coca Cola called me tomorrow for an image, there's no way I'd let them have any image for under 4 figures, and possibly under 5.

Sometimes, the best paying jobs take the shortest to shoot.
