I've got all the SSD drives hooked up to Intel SATA 2 ports so I can't really speak for performance as it pertains to benchmarking the speed.

But I can tell you that it's made photo editing TONS quicker. The OS feels super fast and because I am using the 2 Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD drives for photo editing, one for cache/scratch, things are pretty awesome now!

SSD is highly recommended. I used the hardisks now as backup and external hardrive as archive and portable external drive as transferring files if there's no network/internet connectivity.

Lightroom is mind-blowingly fast on SSD. Just to add to Nick's note about how it compares.

Got my Samsung 830 in the Hackintosh. Huge difference.
