350D + Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro problem

Hy, i recently boght a SIGMA 70-300 APO DG Macro for my 350D, but when im taking TELE-Foto at 300mm (or even at 200mm) i get kinda blured images, dunno why, in Macro mode at 300mm that doesn't happends, I took some fotos at JPEG Super Fine (max resolution) with a Tripod, in some i even used the self-timer to avoid the camera shake, but still get the blured pictures...

I have here some examples (in the name of the foto i mention is i use self timer, etc..)
All pictures (exempt the ones that say 200mm in the name) were took in 300mm

The two first images look like camera shake, although portions of the image look well focused. Try using Mirror lockup (in the custom functions) option and then use the self timer.

What setting are you using, exposure and f-stop, as stepping down to f8 or 10 might see a sharper image? Post the exif info if possible

I would say all your images are soft although it would help to know where you were focusing!

The first image:
Exposure Time = 1/640"

ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Metering Mode = Pattern
Focal Length = 190mm
(Was on a Tripod and pressed shutter button)

The second image:

(Was also on tripod but now used the self-timer to avoid camera shake)

(on tripod and used self-timer)

I also tried the mirror-lockup but the result is the same...

In Macro mode (300mm the pictures are ok) :

Images look fine to me.
and macro will always look good because its so close.

this lens perform good at f7.1 or above.

But i've seen fotos taken by this lens on 350D with F5.6 (or similar) Clear as cristal...

At 300mm, this lens will produce OK results wide open, but certainly not crystal clear. I had one for a while, and the closer the subject is, the sharper the images for this lens, especially at the long end. The macro range was always very sharp, but distant subjects at 300mm....took at least to f/8-f/10 to get sharp shots.

Humm all this fotos were taken about 30meters distance (98.43 feets) so what you are saying is that the subject is too far away ?

But look, This foto was taken by a friend of mine with same lens about 15meter distance (49.21 feet) at F5.6 and 1/500seg (at 270mm) ans is cristal clear:

What does it look like at 100%? It's nearly impossible to judge sharpness from a reduced image. I have to say, that is a great shot, though. Also, if that's a full, non cropped image, I'd have to say he was probably a lot closer than 15m (regardless of Exif data), since an eagle's head won't fill the frame with a 270m lens from 15m away. (maybe 4 or 5m or so, but not 15) And yeah, 100ft away is pretty distant.

My friend says it wasn't at less 15m, was 15m or more...and yes, he crooped the image...
But, what i want to show is that is cristal clear..., mine even is i croop and use USM (lot's of it) i still have blured images...

Don't know what to tell you. That eagle image, especially if it's a severe crop, is probably the best shot I've ever seen of the Sigma 70-300 taken wide open at that focal length. I certainly never got anything approaching that with my 70-300. I get that kind of sharpness and color from my 80-200L on pretty much every shot, but not with my old Sigma. Do you have a 100% crop of that eagle's eye?

Ahh thats unbelievable shot of eagle.
its prime lens quality. seems like extra RAW PP on saturation.
i doubt this kind of quality is challenge for even top Canon telephoto lens.

Why my sigma gets that pour results ? Is it realy because im more than 30m away ?

How far you were from that 2nd bird (its a falcon?)

Not sure what to say about that eagle, looks like L Glass quality, I would say RAW and some USM....

The bird name is kite. you can call it mini eagle hehe.

it was in sky so can't really tell the distance exactly but it must be more than 50 meter. also i had to crop the picture to get the frame filled completely.

if you have done focus test and if its ok, then i think your sigma is fine copy, so do some more practice with it, set ISO 400 or 800 and get shutter speed as fast as possible. once you know this lens capablities, you can get many keepers everyday.
