Does anyone know what Canon charges to clean and inspect a lens? I have a silver cps membership and im wondering if its worth the upgrade to gold to get the 2 yearly clean/checks. If it costs more than $50 to send it to them and have it serviced then its for sure worth it.

Thanks

I am sure its more than $50. You could always call and ask. The prices for standard cleanings are usually set prices and if any repairs are needed, those are additional.

+1 Gold. The only drawback is the cost to send it. I have a guy locally that charges $35.00 to clean the sensor. It would cost @ $15 - $25 to send it Canon, plus he does it while I wait.

But I do have the Gold membership.

I didn't get them when I renewed last Oct. Just the complimentary clean and check coupons.

yes, they no longer offer the goodies to renewing members, sorry to say.

shame too. my old CPS strap had gotetn frayed and "well loved", so I was expecting a replacement in the mail when I renewed my membership, but nada.

they also send you a nice CPS datebook planner

I've used it several times. you are limited to borrowing each lens only twice.

typically I email them asking if a particular lens will be available during a specified time. I either get a reply that it's not available, or I get an email confirmation about the lens getting shipped to me.

the 85L, while producing nice image quality, is dog slow. I prefer my 50L.

you are not only limited to lenses, but bodies as well. they have put the 5D III on the list, but I'm sure that's a long list.
