I have been asked to provide a dozen images for display and sale in a newly refurbished (posh) restaurant. They currently have some watercolours displayed on a "gallery hanging" system.

I've started researching these systems and it seems that there are dozens of different ones. It seems very unlikely that the restaurant staff will know anything useful about whats there so I really need some help and advice.

A friend has suggested I approach a company called Lion. I've done this and they have promised to send me some catalogues but I will still need guidance or I'll be buying totally the wrong things!

Have you tried contacting the watercolor artist through the restaurant? If he/she is already using a system, find out what they like and dislike about it. If they like it, ask them where they got it. If they don't, ask them what they would recommend or at least what features to look for. I had a hanging system in my store, but it wouldn't be suitable for a restaurant. They are literally dozens of different systems that would be though. Good luck and congrats on the display!

I don't follow this. The gallery hanging system usually would be permanently installed in the gallery where the images are displayed and they would provide you with a hangar & clip for each of your images. Is the system they are using some type of portable system?

From a more knowledgable friend and on line investigating it appears that the system in use is not a proper gallery hanging system, but something used by Estate Agents/shops who need to display but don't want to spend a fortune on a "proper" system.

All the Lion offerings are high quality aluminium section but the restaurant has a cheap white plastic square section that must have been there for years. I very much doubt that the Restaurant operator is aware of what he's got. Having just reopened after fire damage he has other things on his mind.

I'm in two minds about the idea of contacting the present display owner. He or she may not be aware that the Restaurant operator intends to rotate the displays around at least four different people.

Lions aluminium gallery hanging kits are fantastic. I own a picture framing business and have used quality gallery hanging equipment in my shop, the local art gallery and a few of my customers homes. The cheaper plastic ones are ok but can be quite flimsy depending on the size of work you are going to be displaying.
I would advise the restaurant of this and see if its a possibility to renew the current system.

Lion have been very helpful, to the extent that if needed, they will talk me through any queries I've got. I am fascinated by their brochures, so much kit I never knew existed! It seems as though they are set up to supply businesses like yours and simply tolerate the small time wasters like me but in a very open and friendly way.
