Anyone else having 24-70 withdrawal this summer?

I typically do a lot of summer shooting for my job. For the past year or so, I've been happy with what I have decided will be my ideal travel lens lineup: a 24-70 zoom lens, a 85 prime, and a 135 prime. I started the year anticipating an April arrival of the new 24-70L II. Just in time for my summer work.

Now the lens has been delayed yet a second time into September or later. While I have purchased my 85 and 135 primes, I still have a BIG gap in my ideal lineup. I have tried filling it lately with several options.

I bought the Tamron 24-70 VC and returned it; it's a great lens but I expect perfection at $1200 or more. I just rented a 17-40L. I found it to be a little more flexible as a walk-around lens compared to my old 16-35L II but I sure missed the wider aperture! It left me longing for an EF 17-70 2.8L IS! I refuse to buy the older 24-70L and the cost of renting it for 30 days would make for a nice down-payment on the new lens. I suppose I could rent a Tamron 28-75? With its slow focus...

I am just pulling my hair out in frustration with Canon!

I guess the point of my rant is to ask: Is anyone else having a 24-70L withdrawal this summer? Did Canon screw up your summer shooting plans?

Yes it did, I was hoping to take my new 24-70 to Europe in August but I can't now.

What about it was no good? All reviews I have read put it basically on par with the Canon counterpart, if not slightly better in some aspects. Also, the new V2 is starting at a grand more, so I would hope it is a better lens.

Buy a used 24-70 and sell it when the new one ships. Much cheaper than a rental and there's a good chance you'll break even on it.

I refuse to buy the older 24-70L

Why? It's a fantastic lens.

I like my brick a lot. For now, I'm a zoom guy and I use it 50% of the time at almost every wedding.

I find it silly you refuse to buy the older 24-70, even to buy used just to get by until the new one is out and sell for little to no loss at all... And not having this focal length is ruining your summer shooting?

Seems weird. If you need a specific lens, get it. Don't buy new and just get a good used one for a cheaper price. Sell when the new one comes out. This way it is win win. You have the focal length you need now and will have the new version when out.

Nope. Been shooting 90% of the time with my 24-70 2.8L the last four years, so this summer is really no different.
