I've seen some dumping there 70-200 F4 for the new 70-300 IS which is a bit cheaper. I was thinking of the 70-300mm IS for the tele end. When I'm ready (maybe sometime in the spring) I'll have to compare the two. I know the build isn't as good but I've heard that some are getting sharper and better results in low light. I'd really love to rebuy the 70-200 F2.8 IS as I was very impressed with the results but I am just never going to carry anything that big and heavy again.

Racketman, do you find that F4 is fast enough for the cloudy conditions we usually get here in the UK?

I've used mine in some really cloudy conditions (very dark, almost raining, threatening clouds) and still can maintain at least 1/500th at ISO-200 or sometimes ISO-400.

The pic I posted earlier in the thread was with a light cloud cover (you can just faintly make out a shadow, and can just see the sun starting to glint off the van in the distance). That was at 1/1250th and ISO-100.

I want to try the new 70-300 IS lens. I owned the OLD 75-300 and boy it REALLY sucked. I bought it again thinking it might be just that 1 lens, nope, IT REALLY BLEW.

I would love to try the new one, and if it doesnt fall out @ 300mm, ill buy it. Not a bad lens for around $600 with a dual stage IS and 300mm.

Althought ive been thinking of a 70-200 f/4 and DREAMING about a 2.8 IS ver. aftering shooting a wedding with it.
