I am in process of getting a new lens! I currently have the 50mm 1.8, BUT I am eyeing the 35 2.0 and the newest to the Canon family, the 40 2.8. I've read that they were pretty close to each other.....help me please!! I'm torn! I need more opinions.

What about longer focal lengths? [Canon 5DII/30D | 24-70 f2.8L | Σ 30 f1.4 | Σ 50 f1.4 | 70-200 f4L | 580EX II ]

Perhaps a Canon 28 1.8 or a Sigma 30 1.4 would be a good choice. Canon 6D | Fuji X100 | Fuji XE-2 | Canon 24-105L | Canon 50 1.4 | Canon 85 1.8 | Canon EF 70-300 IS USM | 430EX | 270EX

Jul 20, 2012 11:00 | #9 Since you are a newbie, I would highlight what smcintosh wrote. It's really not possible to give you good advice unless you tell us what you want to be able to do with your new lens that you can't do with your old one. There are lots and lots of choices, and if you don't say what YOU need a new lens for, folks will guess based on what they shoot, which may be completely different.
