If so, Custom function 9: Choose either option 1(if you want AE-lock) or 3(if no AE-lock is desired).

The " * " button will now control AF and AE will still be on the half-press of the shutter button.

Ya, I googled and found it out and it works splendidly!

I'm going to ask one more(seemingly) stupid question: Your software fires the camera; AF and AE are both accomplished simultaneously when fired through the software. Would the button assignation on camera make any difference?

IOW, would shunting AF to a back button(which separates AF and AE on camera to two different button pushes) help in any way?

Ok I googled on how to do this and set the main trigger to AE only and the back button to focus. I opened the EOS Utility and can manually adjust software remotely, and still trigger with JUST shooting and not AF! You nailed it exactly for what I need! you probably just saved me A TON of money. You sir, are a saint.

I appreciate everyone's help, thanks you so much you guys. You guys are life savers!

You beat me by 2 hours. As I read through the thread that was the first thing that came to mind. Glad he got the help he needed. :)

Heh! I just saw this thread, so y'all beat me by three days!

I think a lot of folks weren't clear on what the OP was asking. Rear-Button focus is pretty common and you don't have to turn off the AF switch as long as you have a full-time Manual lens!

What your looking for is what Bruce Willis used on his remote machine gun in his movie "The Jackal". :D

An update to this as well is a piece of software from www.breezesys.com (external link) called DSLR Remote Pro.

It can control multiple camera's per computer and do a lot of other really neat things. Unfortunately it costs $130 per camera on a computer. So 5 Camera's is 130x5= $$$$.
