Nothing to against this... But with the current EF/EF-S lenses attached to the MILC, the combo will be no longer small.

Yeah I struggle with that all the time, I think that the lens choices would be limited to a nifty fifty, maybe the 50 1.4 and the pancake lens to keep the form factor small but as a backup camera to a DSLR in case of emergencies. Also the ability to use it immediately instead of having to invest in all new glass regardless of the size. I hope it works out and exceeds our lofty expectations

This looks to be spot on for their first mirrorless ILC. Size is good, minimal controls, no eye-level finder, big LCD, almost certainly a touchscreen interface. Nice to see that they made it to be a pure mirrorless camera, not a shrunken DSLR (although I'm sure that one of those will come). I just hope that there are at least five or six good quality lenses available for it in a short amount of time.

I hope it's compatible with EF/EFS lenses. That would get me to buy one. But they'll probably do like nikon where you have to buy an expensive adapter.

There's is a big market for mirrorless cameras and that one looks to fit in my pocket! Which is what I want. But at the same time when I'm not worried about size it would be nice to pop up some SLR lenses on it.

Ok, I'm going to reiterate this

You cannot physically make a mirrorless compatable with EF/EF-S lenses, or any other DSLR mount without increasing the size and ending up with a camera just as big as a DSLR, see the Pentax K-01 which is the same size as the K-5...

Why? Flange distance, so the lens has to stick out of the body as far as the mirror box and everything anyways, at that point you might as well not bother making it a mirrorless and give it a mirror and make it a DSLR, THe reason most people want a mirrorless is size and weight, So by the time you've done this you've made an utterly pointless camera...

Canon should theoretically be able to make a cheaper lens adapter than Sony/Nikon because unlike Sony and Nikon they do not need something in the adapter to actuate the aperture as Canon uses electronic diaphragms, if Canon basically used the same EF codes and everything from the EF mount then basically the new mount is a shrunk EOS one and all you need is a ""dumb" adapter to adapt the size and spacing...

Anyways, More pictures, looks like an S100-type of camera with a lens mount to me

Hard to judge the sensor size...

The use of an adaptor actually makes matters worse because one is then adding to the physical length of the EF/EF-S lens.

One other point about mounting SLR lenses to such a thin camera body with very little for the hand to grip; it makes the combination unwieldy and unsteady. It's difficult enough to use L lenses on a petite Rebel body, I would not want to mount such lenses on this mirrorless.

Personally, the only use I would have for this mirrorless is as a potential backup body for Canon DSLR users, but I would not care to use it routinely with EF/EF-S lenses.

If the idea is to have a compact and portable camera kit for travel and casual shooting, one is going to have to buy into the system with native lenses. That being the case, why would anyone limit themselves to a Canon mirrorless?

Where's the limitation? I see only opportunity.

The limitation is in any Canon DSLR user feeling they are somehow still beholden to the Canon lens mount. If ever there was an opportunity for a photographer to make a break from Canon gear, this is it (and that's coming from a Canon user of 35 years). Taking the cheap way out by buying this mirroless body for use primarily with EF/EF-S lenses makes no sense to me, and could end up becoming a not so inexpensive mistake.

I will continue to use my Canon gear for action, portrait, and telephoto work, but I will rely on my Olympus micro 4/3 kit for everything else. It's too bad Canon decided against joining the m43 format, or choosing the comparable sized sensor from the G1X for its mirrorless. I would have switched to such a Canon system, and they could have kept me in the fold.

Exactly. I'm considering the EOS M on it's own merits rather than associating it with the existing DSLR system. Using DSLR lenses on mirrorless cameras hasn't proven to be very popular, practical or enjoyable for any other system so far, and I don't see why this should be the exception.
