Is there a way to tell what version of PS CS6 I am running? 32bit or 64bit?

It may be a silly question, but I will explain why if anyone cares or it helps with the awnser.

I decided to go with the cloud version at $20/month when I sign up for a year. So I downloaded it from Adobe and installed it. During installation it gave me the choice if I wanted to install 32bit or 64bit, by default both were checked off to install. I unchecked the 32bit since I have a 64bit OS. (I am using Windows 7 64bit)

It installed, I got a shortcut that was called ''CS6 64bit''. However CS6 would not run after the installation was complete, it would open up, but freeze as soon as I clicked on anything or tried to open a file with it. So I unstalled it, and than reinstalled it, now with the defaults settings of both 32bit & 64bit.

This now fixed the problem, and CS6 runs ok, but I am curious if I am using the 32bit version, which would obviosuly run slower on my machine, or the 64 bit which would take full advantage of my system, and be more responsive.

I am questioning this for 2 reason, the shortcut now just says ''CS6'' unlike ''CS6 64bit'' in the previous unsuccesfull install. So how can I tell what version I am using? I am sure it is very very simple, but I do not know how. Thanks in advance to everyone, and sorry I dragged such a simple question out.

Well on my version, In the menu across the top if you click on the Help menu then go down to About Photoshop... and click that a popup will come up and it will say ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS6 then under that it should say version 13.0 x64

Thanks for the tip, i just did that, and it says x32

I uninstalled it (again), and then reinstalled only the 64bit (again).............and the same problem, CS6 open up, but crashes when I try to do anything. Again 32bit runs fine.

Maybe I should download it all again?? takes about 2 hours.

Might look here, not sure if it'd be relevant or not. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4514013 (external link)

Not sure why the x64 version would behave differently, but you might try right clicking the shortcut and running it as an administrator. Some programs are still finicky with UAC and those permissions.

Thank you for that, even though that person was having issues with Bridge, I tried it. Opened CS6 with run as administrator, but no luck, same problem, opens & doesnt do anything but freeze.

I am currently downloading all the files from adobe again, maybe something got lost in the 2 hour download? Don't even know if thats possible?

So while I wait to see if this fixes anything..........if I have a 64bit OS, I should be using Photoshop 64 bit, no? It will run smoother & faster?

It will run in Windows' native mode instead of the 32bit compatibility mode. The idea being it should be better optimized, but whether it makes a difference or not depends on the application.

Still nothing..........32bit runs fine...........I open 64bit, it opens fine, all the drop down menus along the top fucntion, but once I try to open any kind of file, JPEG, TIF or RAW file it freezes.

I chatted with Adobe, they could not help me since it is a trial version, I decided to use it for free for 30days before I pay (get a free month), but they have no help for tial versions, once I pay they said they can help me out, but why would I pay for something that does not function properly on my machine?

Thank you so much for sharing that link, I looked at it, and said to myself one of these things will fix my issue.............unfortunatly I tried every single one of them, with no change!!!

I am getting very frustrated, I have been a Photoshop Elements user for years, and finally decided to move up to full blown photoshop, and just can not get it to function. I know it is my system and not the program obviosuly. I do not know what to do. My trial ends in 20 something days, and like I said will not/can not buy it if I do not resolve this before it expires. I will then just have to wait till CS7 comes out to try again, and continue using Elements until then, since I won't be able to try CS again.

My Computer runs absolutly fine and I have no issues anywhere else, I also do have other 64bit programs that run just fine if that information helps anyone resolve this.

The specs for my machine are : Windows 7 64bit, Core i5 2.67GHz, 8GB Ram, 1GB ATI Radeon graphics card and a 1TB HDD

Thing is sometimes when you un-install a Adobe product you have to un-install everything with PS . Do it throught the Control Panel>Install-Uninstall then afterwards go back and do a search on anything Adobe and delete that also . Then restart and run a scandisk first . Then try re-installing the Adobe product at 64-bit .

The specs for my machine are : Windows 7 64bit, Core i5 2.67GHz, 8GB Ram, 1GB ATI Radeon graphics card and a 1TB HDD

Might be a good idea and contact support at Adobe . If your computer is 64-bit and your installing 64-bit PS then there should not be a problem .

I chatted live with someone from Adobe on Friday, they said until I pay for CS6 they can Not offer me any help. The trial version is free, so they don't give support for it.......besides a forum, which turned up nothing aswell.

Yes a trial version has no support , sorry about that . I have Cs5 Extended and there is little up grade to Cs6 except it has a few new tools , and editing for video is suppose to be better and the bridge is suppose to be improved upon . You may as well tho continue to use the 32-bit trial at least till it expires so you can at least test it out .

Tell them "Too bad, you don't get the sale. Then try something else." The "something else" could be DxO 7.5.2 and Paint Shop Pro X4, with a total cost under $250, or $400 if your camera is considered "professional" i.e. full frame. I have had good luck with this combo on my Win7/64 machine.

But first, check the amount of memory on your machine. DxO probably needs 4-8gb and Paint Shop Pro at least 1gb. How much does CS6 need? Do you have enough?

Canon 80D, 60D, Canon 10-22EFs, 15-85EFS IS, Sigma 100-400, Sigma 135/1.8ART, Sigma 30mm f/1.4DC, Canon 60mm EFs Macro, Rokinon 8mm fisheye, 550EX flash, Olympus TG6 underwater P&S
Postprocessing: DxOLabs 5, DxO Viewpoint 3, Paint Shop Pro 2021
Speak softly and carry a big zoom.

Thank you everyone very much for your input & trying to help me. I think my compuyter should run the software without a problem. While it is not the fastest system, I feel I could have much worse too.

I really don't want to look at any other software. I have been using Elements for many many years, while it is a different program than PS C6, they do share Alot in common and I do not want to be relearning anything at this point.

I have contacted someone direct who has contacts at Adobe, and they are going to be trying to figure this out for me.
