help.. luma + arca plate??

hi all, i just got this Giottos MH1300-657 Ball Head to go with my tripod. even though it's arca compatible, i've heard there are different versions of arca plates where not all will match properly.

i'm thinking of getting the luma lab strap, but rather than using the screw knob on the bottom like BR, i'm thinking of getting an arca plate like those found on the capture systems.

It was designed so you can leave a plate on but still have an attachment point for the strap.

is that strong enough to handle a 5D2 + 70-200L IS f2.8 + grip?

Yeah it is made of the same stuff they make zodiac boats out of, they tested it like crazy for durability and strength.

Everything from Luma Labs is taking a while right now, demand is through the roof for the Cinch, although there is no note on the connector's page about a delay, they may just be putting that notice on the shopping cart in general and that might ship sooner.

If you're using a screw knob clamp, then you can use any Arca compatible plate. Even if the plates are slightly different the screw clamp can hold them. I put a Markins plate in Wimberley clamp and even though the angle of the dovetail was different, the clamp held the plate strong.

The RRS lever clamp is the only one you need to worry about. It's not adjustable, and as a disclaimer they say not to use other brands besides Wimberley and, of course, their own. Other brands do work, but they'll never admit it. If you don't use a RRS lever clamp, then don't worry.

BTW, RRS and Markins make plates with a lug for straps on both sides. Kirk makes them on one side for a hand strap.

This is what I've done to use Arca with my Black Rapid - I love it. Actually makes the BR strap more convenient, too... (e.g. moving from strap to monopod/tripod)
