There is no way to make the shutter noise silent when you take pictures.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure it's a feature reserved for live view shooting. Because the mirror needs to be out of the way first. The slap of the mirror is what makes the most noise in the process.

Well, color me stoopid. :) There you go (see the 2 posts after mine).

You can make it more quiet when not in live view by setting the drive to silent single or silent continuous. To do this us the AF/Drive button or set it on the visual settings screen on the LCD. it has the S next to the box or boxes when it's on (top LCD).

covered page 112 of the manual.

The "silent shutter mode" is done by pressing the AF/Drive button on the top, then rotating the wheel on the back until the icon has a little letter S next to the frame(s). Not reserved for live view, and is a pretty neat feature.

Edit: Ya beat me, Richard!

Manual, is that those two books wrapped in plastic in the box with the camera? Nah, I don't need to read the manual as I've been shooting DSLR's for years. Mostly Rebels, but there all the same. Focus, press the shutter button....perfect, sharp pictures. Don't need to read a manual to do that.

Hahaha I skip over most parts of it, but keep a PDF copy on my iPhone and iPad in order for quick reference on some of the settings or how something specific works. There when I need it, an paper wrapped in plastic so it looks like I don't!
