I just did a test with my 70-200 f/2.8 MKI and realized how slow it was to focus.... even in very well lit places....

Compared to my canon 85mm 1.8 this lens is crawling... would it be the focus motor needs cleaning? i've had this lens for over 7 years and it's an older than that Lens.... i think this lens is easily about 10 years old... The Date code is UL.... :-) Yes 1997.. :-)

the glass is mint and SHARP as hell, but it's super slow on my 5D MKII... is the Lens just Dated? or needs a cleaning....?

Just Curious!

You must have the non-IS version that goes to 1.5 m while the IS does 1.4m and the IS II does 1.2m

Still, the focus should be just about as fast. Try it at 70mm and 200mm to see if it makes a difference.
