When I attempt to shoot a photo in Live View mode, the shutter does not open. All that happens is that it keeps attempting to focus.

Please help!

What are you trying to focus on and how close is it to the camera?

Do you see an image on the LCD screen?

I'm trying to focus on an image perhaps 5 feet away. I do see the image in the LCD screen.

(Thanks much for your reply).

In low light and depending on the lens focusing may not lock and you won't be able to take a picture. Try doing Live View in something well lit, perhaps outdoors. If that works then low light is your likely problem in which case I would bump up the ISO to get a smaller aperture.

I took your advice and tried it outside, holding down the shutter button...it worked. I also tried it in a low light situation, again holding down the shutter button. After a few seconds it also worked.

Perhaps I did not understand that in live view mode it is necessary to hold down the shutter button until the camera (in AF mode) finds the right conditions in which to take the photo.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question. You've been a big help.

You can also flip the AF-MF switch on the lens to MF and focus manually. You can use the magnify button as a focus aid to zoom in on your subject for easier focus. Page 120 in the manual.
